Hell, growing up, many in India including me always believed that Pakistan was absolutely invincible in Sharjah especially when a match fell on a friday.
And particularly Aquib Javed (got the spelling wrong)... a complete dunce against every other team and an absolute terror, an ambling landmine when he bowled against India.
DID HE SAY THAT?
ReplyDelete"and we will play our world cup matches only on Friday".
ReplyDeleteCome 15th June and his wish may just be granted.
Anon: No he didn't say that :-)
Ah! The classic invincible friday urban legend.

ReplyDeleteNot true Scorpi - 1992 world cup and Aqib had the Aussies, the Kiwis, and the English by their balls!
ReplyDeleteQ, don't push it, WC in Sharjah on a Friday, that's not 50-50 chance anymore.
ReplyDeleteBtw Pak-Aus ODI series in the gulf, how many days on good friday?
scorpi, which is why I prefer to watch Ind-Pak Sharjah Friday games in either Japan or New Zealand - be a Saturday there.
ReplyDeleteQ, but Aqib Javed had India's number. isn't he the bowling coach now
92 world cup ah... how could i forget.
ReplyDeleteNC - yep he's the bowling coach alright.. enjoyed a few drinks with him during the Dubai series ;-)
ReplyDeleteThere were 2 ODIs on Fridays against Australia - one in Dubai, another in AD.. Pakistan lost both.
