Usually cricket captains are batsmen. Batsmen are generally shorter than the bowlers, especially the fast bowlers. So it does seem that generally cricket captains will not usually be the tallest player in the team.
We have had some very short captains: Sunil Gavaskar (5 ft 5 in) and Sachin Tendulkar (5 ft 5 in). Or take Brian Lara (5 ft 8 in) giving orders to Curtly Ambrose (6 ft 7 in).
Perhaps Napolean Bonaparte (5 ft 7in) may have made a good cricket captain.
Wow .. interesting .. Adolf Hitler's height was abt 5 ft 8 ..
ReplyDeleteThere is an old chinese saying ... "short guys are more tactful".. may be cricket takes a leaf from that too..
ReplyDeleteA captain needs to walk head held high, instead of hanging his head, as if in shame. So it helps if the captain is a veritable dwarf:)
ReplyDeleteKrish, always thought Ponting was much shorter, was gonna do a similar story, but 5 10 put me off.
ReplyDeleteBtw what was that Midget in the urinal story that Sidhu goes on with?
