Not long ago Yuvraj was a bad word.
He was M-ed through his short stay in the little island. He was made to feel small. Sit back in his crease, and wait to be taken. There came a time even Vaas not Was had him.
The series couldn’t get over fast enough.
Then came some homestays, but they were alien too. Single figure scores can disfigure most careers. Yuvraj’s though, is not a career – it’s some guy’s search for truth on his behalf. His seven years in the game are like this guy’s seven years in Tibet. Only the Dalai Lama has long left the building.
And just when you think, pack off, retire, Yuvraj black belts and decodes his own matrix again. This could be yet another sequel with an open ending – but it’s just so pretty, you say, what the hell, bring ‘em on, baby.
Or do you? Do you wait for Yuvraj on ice – with slips in place, a bloke with a fulltime spin job, and see the lad skate away on the thin ice of a new day.
Let’s talk about Yuvi, baby.

If he can continue to keep up that bowling we have a great SLA all rounder. A wonderful no 8. certainly better than Samit Patel...now all he has to do is jus bowl more effectively than Monty. then no questions about his inclusion.
Afridi plays at 7 or 8, why not Yuvi?
original thought sb. he's the irfan replacement then - and bats after msd or as a floater?
Wow. Comparing Yuvi to Afridi? Thats a thought SB..
Here's another thought:
For as long as Yuvi has been in the ODI side, he has known that his spot is his own. In a situation like that, he has truly performed.
At the test level he was always fighting for a place.
At times filling in for an unjured batsman, at others opening the innings to break into the test team.
He never knew whether the place was really his or not.
Now that a place in the middle order is up for grabs and the first one to it can make it his own, Yuvraj the test player might just emerge.
Might just.
i don't delve the avg of players very much...and i feel given the long rope he can surprise many...
he is confidence player...can destroy any attack to submission...and that's where we must take gamble...
forgive me for my daring statement but think given the same matches ganguly had with india as test match batsman...yuvi would win us more matches...
sb - take it you want both pujara and yuvi in the test XI?
q - that's a +ve, uncluttered take on the whole deal. if ys is on the same comments page, he's got a real chance.
sp - the toss up is whether go for a guy who will win you games but may not save you any.
very well said...but there are always few game crackers...rest are there to save the game...
I still see him as a lad skating on thin ice... dudes, what about long lost son Irfan?
scorpi - irfan is still msd's go-to guy in t20s with the ball. he still may get a look in the last few ODIs, tests in India seem like a longshot.
