The New Number 4?

by Bored Member

By Q

In the past that role has been fulfilled by Javed Miandad, Saleem Malik, Inzamam Ul Haq, and Mohammad Yousuf.

The transition from Javed to Yousuf was a smooth one and Pakistan always had their best batsman coming into bat at number 4.

For Pakistan the number 4 position was always occupied by the man around whom their entire innings would revolve.

With Yousuf's ditch, the transition doesn't seem smooth anymore.

Who will be Pakistan's new number 4?

Malik?
Misbah?
Younis?
Fawad?

Who?

Misbah

q, no. 3 or no 4, which is the more important position?

NC, generally I think number 3 is the more pivotal position in a team..everyone plays around the one down batsman - Ponting, Dravid, Kallis, Lara all made that position theirs for a long time... but in Pakistan for some reason the teams anchors / best batsmen have usually batted at 4 - as I mentioned in this post.

And with Yousuf gone, it becomes an even more critical position for Pakistan.

Interesting that u suggest Misbah. I would go for Younis. Put Malik at 3, then Younis, then Misbah.

I feel Misbah bats better near the end of an innings. Younis may be the better bet to anchor the innings, while Malik has always done better in the top 3..

I was also struck by your question about #4. I've been more obsessed with #3s, but got your explanation. First vote for Younis, next (and a very close one) for Misbah.

SP my only reason to refrain form using Misbah at 4 is that i feel he bats better near the end of an innings.. i dont think he is he right person to walk in at 50-2 in the 12th over..
