second day: india fail to force issue...

by straight point

for the first time in recent times indian innings stagnated after the fall of dravid...specially in third session of play...

usually the team looks to up the ante in this session to capitalise on a good foundation...on tired bowlers and to get into some sort of momentum before the new ball is due...but what we saw was just the opposite...the batsmen at the crease kept on blocking and blocking without any visible intention of looking even for a single...

ryder was given too much respect and we specially failed to capitalise on vettori's off color bowling when he was surprisingly flat...

nz would think they still have a chance and if they can pick a couple of wickets in the first hr tomorrow the lead can be restricted to manageable levels...

there is still quite a bit of time left in this test match and if nz manage to restrict india and post a decent score in the next five sessions india will be in a defensive position coz they will have to bat in the fourth innings...if this happens india will look back at third session as the missed opportunity where they could have been little more proactive...

again on two consecutive days no team can lay claims to be in distinctive advantage...

It's a shame NZ isn't a stronger team than they are at the moment, or else there would have been a real chance of punsishing India for complacency.

exactly pro...

better team would have stifled them to submission...i mean 250 runs in whole day when the conditions were not that demanding...vettori not closed to his best and ryder bowling maidens after maidens...or rather allowed to...

and during that time bat never rose for the backlift...they kept on blocking as if the bomds were to explode in pitch...

btw, welcome to bcci! keep dropping by...

I could not understand what indian players were waiting to revolve the score.
IN the past we have done well, Our moral is high, our players are in good form...we are in a good Position in ranking....sure, we made 50-70 less runs....

profernity, had nzl been a stronger team, india would have gone at them harder. teams like nzl suck the enthusiasm outta their rivals.

SP, it's far too predictable - can already see Vettori and Ryder having an Andy Flower series.

Tho not thrilled with the approach, I'd still take our score/wickets today - can really grind the kiwis tomorrow, after the first hour should be happy hour. Can see MSD cashing in bigtime tomorrow.

I guess what this comes down to is maintaining a high standard no matter what the standard of opposition. Perhaps NZ are too mediocre to inspire glorious performances, but nevertheless that is no reason for inspiration not to come from within.
