wada: you are guilty till proven innocent...

by straight point

seems to be the mantra today...

gone are the days when it was better to free a hundred guilty men...than to convict an innocent one...

today wada believes in the opposite...treating all players like suspects...

...and no sir...if majority appears to toe to the line (tho unwillingly as has been reported...) that does not make their diktat right...

these days sportsmen...specially cricketers are on the road for most of the time, they rightly deserve a break...you have no business to encroach on their right to privacy...specially in a rare off-season...they don't deserve to be treated like suspects...just coz they happen to play sport they love...

if you want to enforce the code and eliminate the possibility of doping from the game how about harsher punishment...?

how come players like asif after being tested positive not once but twice still find a way to the probables of champions trophy...while he should have been handed a ban for life...!

aren't you making a statement that it's ok to do drugs...?

There are thousands of players from other sports organizations which follow this rule, besides making privacy and security a pretext for not to sign the treaty is childish it's not like Wada will release the information about the whereabouts of these players in the media the moment it recieves it.

As regards Asif I think he has served his time on both occassions.

I think Indian player's are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Wasim, am curious, how much time has Asif served?

thanks for the frank comment wasim...

as i have already said in the post majority doesn't always reflect that the matter is right...of just...

first they are playing sport...and just coz some players do drugs and cheat you can't paint all players in same light...

these officials who don't even step out of their plush office or don't even know the ground realities coz they don't have to face it...

unlike other sports...cricket is now being played almost throughout year...with hardly any break in between...and if they get it they fully deserved to be left alone...

indian cricketers or not...

subcontinent players specially face security threats which players from other countries don't...and you and me can't even imagine the pressure under which they live...

we all have seen that even the promise of presidential level security was not enough for a team protection...

its we who think its mole hill but a life under threat can not be restored...

plus what fun these stringent codes when you can still play international cricket doing drugs...? ;-)

There are 571 sports bodies in the world whose players follow these rules.

Those players who get caught we only know of them because of these surprise drug tests.

You cannot have the surprise element unless the Wada people know about the whereabouts of the players.

There are countless sportsmen in the world who use these drugs and some of them get caught the illicit drug industry is always a step ahead of the testing agencies they keep on chaging the drug strains and keep on inventing new masking agents, if the surprise element is taken out I don't think anybody will ever get caught.

If no Indian player has ever tested positive it doesn't give them the right to be exempt from these tests. All those players who are not objecting to this rule they are not admitting to their guilt they are just following the law.

How many international matches did Asif played in last 3 and a half years?

The security issue is just a pretext, all these players are seen in so many social gatherings it's not that they are hiding from the world, they only have to give their whereanbouts for just one hour between 6 am to 11 am.

Most of the times these players are in practice sessions during these hours which are heavily guarded if not they can pick their house, I am sure if they are so scared they must be surrounded by security guards all the time.

You ask how come Asif finds himself in the probables list of CT even after testing positive. I say it is because cricket is not WADA-compliant :)

Come on now. It is possible to mark out an hour a day. It's not like they are being asked to give an hour by hour detail of their plans. And secondly, this will not be set in stone. If needed, these details can be updated.

If we want to try and make cricket drug free and perhaps see cricket as an Olympic sport some day, we need to follow WADA rules...no pain no gain :)
