Why isn’t Bhajji’s sis getting married?

by Gaurav Sethi

This is really unfortunate. Not so much Gambhir’s sister’s wedding, as its timing.

If it was a tossup between your sister’s wedding and a test match against the Lankans, what would you do?

Tell you what I’d do: speak with Sachin, have the test shifted by a few days. If that doesn’t work, I’ll speak with sister and have the wedding shifted – not the date, you can’t do that, but the venue – to Mumbai, Brabourne stadium.

When they need me for the ceremonies, I’ll go off the field for a bit, and Dinesh Karthik will fill in for me.

But Gautam and I, we’re different. He’s going for the wedding. I’ll watch the match instead.

hahaha! he's stated it as one of his responsibilities too, hasn't he?

let's bribe some elders then to fix a date once the next tour of Australia is announced.

Oh no, not then. The team needs a mascot, SRT needs a friend, and MS needs a hug abroad. It's lonely out there.

the real question is can bhajji decide to leave a spinner's spot and go for his sis marriage...?

Gaurav Sethi said...

To put that in perspective, don't think he can leave a spinner's spot and go for his own marriage.

Mandap at mid off. Ottayan can be the pundit.

He can take a break for a year and still walk into the side. The apprentice gets the same treatment as the master even though he's a disgrace to his master's legacy.

You know what I realised...wooing Rakhi Sawant is more important than representing your country these days...the priorities of the youth of this country are truly misplaced!

Here's something to think about - with all the practice Dinesh Karthik has on filling in for his colleagues, one day someone's going to ask him to fill in for their wedding ;-)

I don't think there's anything wrong in missing a test match for your sister's wedding. People tend to take sport way too seriously. Just to put this into perspective, the fans will turn on Gambhir as soon as he has a bad run but his sister isn't going to do that.

Mahek, on the contrary, unless there's a serious injury or you're SRT or MSD, don't see any player hazarding a break. But I get what you're gng at. But what's that about masters and apprentices?

Gaurav Sethi said...

Megha, but GG isn't gng to woo either Rakhi or Brabourne

Haha! Good one Raj

Mahek, frankly, I'm surprised Jatman is playing at Mumbai. Your brother's sister's marriage is yr sister's marriage, right?

I think master = SRT, apprentice = Durbhajan Singh. I think what Mahek is alluding to is that SRT and Durby are the only ones who can take a year off and still walk into the side. While SRT probably deserves it, it is inexplicable that Durby can dictate terms thus. I dont think even MSD is more secure than him in the team!

Of course that's it Raj. Thanks man.

Poor bhajji...I would have been inclined to have a go at him myself but looking at the collective expression of animosity makes me feel a little sorry for him!
He is India's premier spinner, you know, however woefully out of form he may be. He may be getting more than his fair share of chances but that is partly because he's earned it, isn't it?

Rohit, I know where you're coming from but I still don't know where Bhajji's going to take India

Btw Gambhir's favourite channel: DD Sports (didi sports)

Amazing how people still consider Harbhajan India's "premier spinner" when he's neither premier nor does he spin the ball.

@ NC...

ha ha!! But seriously gives you an idea of the stature Gambhir has achieved! He wouldn't have done it a couple of years ago.

@ Mahek..

Come on, don't be so cynical. Which current finger spinner turns it big anyways? His flatter trajectory is a product of our times. Anyway, Kumble didn't turn it too much either. I wish you would appreciate the fact that he has been a stalwart performer for most of his career. Mishra, Ojha, Chawla do not merit comparison. They have achieved very little. Have you forgotten Australia 2001?

Mahek said...

I don't know if I've forgotten that series but Harbhajan sure as hell has. I guess having neutral umpires doesn't help his cause either.

And he doesn't spin the ball because he won't flight it. Couple of fours and he thinks he needs to kill the batsman with a dart. He has an average of 33 in the last two years. That's horrible considering he's played almost all his cricket during this time in the subcontinent.
