why attacking batsman should not be made captain...

by straight point

going by the flak gayle is facing for his captaincy... i have always felt that attacking batsman should never be made captain for the simple reason they play aggressive cricket which always appears or borders on recklessness...

so if the runs are not coming that regularly... they fall prey to the media and fans' ire too easily and though the team should not be run by the way media or fan thinks but this, to me, is unwanted and unnecessary pressure on him as well as team he is leading...

another reason for which i feel that attacking batsman should not be made captain is... how can he seek an explanation from a player who he thinks is not doing his job properly...

this player can always shrug his shoulders and snap at his captain "boss... i was just playing my natural game... like you..."

Wonder what you have to say about Clive Lloyd, Graeme Smith, Kumar Sangakkara.

Oh and not to forget Ricky Ponting.

if graeme smith, sangakkara or even ponting can be put on same category as chris gayle... i definitely watch very different cricket... :)

Not every attacking batsman is Chris Gayle. Besides, Gayle could be the best captain on earth and still not lead this group of West Indians to victory. It's just a terrible side when you consider none of the pace bowlers has been fit for long enough to make an impact and the batting ends with Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Nash and Bravo are decent batsmen but they must be among the worst numbers 5 and 6 in test cricket.

Afridi is one of the most underrrated test cricketers of this century. He's a much better batsman, bowler and fielder than Shoaib Malik and should be a shoo-in for their test side.

Another attacking batsman who captained his side well in the few opportunities he got: Adam Gilchrist.

Afridi and 'under rated'!!! Do you not see that he is still Pakistan's favourite player in spite of going half a boom at best! He isn't under rated at all. Everyone is aware of his prodigious talent, with bat and ball. Just hark back to the T20 final vs India and remember how Afridi got out. Would you make him captain?
