There is some cricket stuff you always grapple with – like, was Michael Atherton ever a cricketer. Did he ever play with a cricket bat and not just his little microphone? The other evening, I’m with a re-run of Freddie’s game, and who pops into frame – Atherton, so smug, you’d think he took a five for and beat the Aussies single-handedly with mike in hand, doing one of his cocky interviews. And while accepting the trophy for the wimp of the match, he’ll nonchalantly say, “Even Rudi can’t give that out”
