What do you call a woman that wields a bat?

by Naked Cricket

I watched women's cricket for the first time - that is, more than the pass you by surf shuffle, and more than 2 balls running. Caught a lionesses' share of the Indian innings post rain, and it's compelling enough to write about. And of course watch. So, in a way you can watch what you write. And write what you watch. Cheers to the lasses!

And that batwoman, Mithali Raj. Not long before the media gets interested in her other side.

NC,

The link to cricinfo was disappointing. They had nothing on her other side.:)

Seriously, I have watched the Indian woman's team practice in one of Chennai's newer grounds. They are as serious if not more serious than the men about their cricket.

It is high time they got their due. I believe the ICC is all set to release a woman's ICC rankings.

More the power to them.

Cheers.

ott,
It was downright riveting. Loved the pace of the game, the quicks @ 67 mph, the spinners @ 45 mph.
So much time to enjoy the nuances of the game - "immaculate defence" as Mike Holding would say.

However once you put the result in play, it's obvious Mithali and co were having a good net out there. What was it, Eng smashed those runs @5.5+, india sauntered @3

guess they were conscious, i was watching them ;)

Your comment on the pace of the game reminds me of Ramesh Krishnan's serve.

ott - it is said, when ramesh krishnan served an ace the ball bounced twice to beat his opponent.
had krishnan been a cricketer, he would've been Greg Chappell's ideal death ball bowler.

Take pity on the poor prat,
Who lusts for a lass with a bat,
One look at his balls,
She swings lustily,
With all her might,
& sends his nads totally outasight!!!

Having said that I wouldn't mind engaging Cindy in a spot of cricket! The conditions would need to be windy though, since with the leaf blown away, I wouldn't need no bat, what with my god given staff rising to the occasion!!!

sr - ahem. cindy elope her. or lop here.

NC. It's great to find a post about Indian Women cricket, as they put in their sweat and blood for the love of the sport.

As a blogging community, we don't count for much, but isn't it time for us to raise our voices for the blatant discrimination of the BCCI towards women's cricket in the country.

They are not even provided stadiums for their elite games.

Lets start a campaign to strengthen their fight against this blatant discrimination.

If you decide on some plan, pl let me know, you'll find special posts on my blog, as my contribution towards the cause

AB - sounds like a good idea. If conditions are bad, then it's worth a write. And that should be the plan.
