we are not going to let you off so easily here at BCCI...we will keep coming at you relentlessly and will ensure you are as bored cricket crazy as we want you to be...
so tell us who are you?
err...let me revise question...
what type of cricketer are you...or used to be...
bowler...batsman...all rounder or a mere arm chair cricketer...?
if you have to mark one international player who bear a striking resemblance the way you used to play cricket who that would be...
come on...we are waiting...

let me start with myself...
i used to be opener and fairly good off spinner...with bundle of experience from gully cricket (narrow lanes) one thing which i was very efficient of was straight drive and very fine leg glance...
and if i have to grace one international player for recognition it would be ravi shastri...with only one difference...if only he could bat like me ;-))
Middle order batsman and mystery spinner -
a bit of KP and Mendis rolled into one. like Mendis, even i don't know what's coming out of the hand, so how will the batsman
bowl a bit of seam up to warm up, then settle to bowl spin when pooped.
Like KP, like to hit everything, before it pitches. Can also double up in the Gillespie/Hoggard deadbat mode.
Close in fielder - pref. shot mid wicket.
good one SP!
interesting gaurav...what a bland...
i, due to my never lasting agility on field, used to stand at slip...or at short cover after making sure there is sweeper behind me... :)
short cover's good too. but nothing to beat a C&B. Just struck me that's why they called it the CB series - caught n bowled!
Excuse me gents, may I?
Thanks - I used to bat last as there was last man 'gaaji'.( A Tamil word for batting. Last man gaaji means that even if there are no partners one could continue batting until one is out or till the cows come home.)
I used to field at the slips as it gave me a chance to ogle at the girls in the neighbourhood.
AS for batting I was a stroke less wonder.
hmm uh... that's a tough one... as a bowler, maybe a bit of bishop mutated with a lee as an action (horrible action)but quick... way quicker than an average joe. Recently a few months back played tennis ball cricket and was pleased to know that I still had some pace left in me... though I have transformed as an all-out number 7 hitter to an opener that can defend and tickle the ball around and I don't like that! I find it difficult to score those big sixes anymore... it did not help that some 16 year old kids told me "uncal uncal... please rotate the strike"... stupid kids...grrrr
Why don't we have a yearly get together somewhere... so all us bloggers can meet us, chill out, catch up and even play a bloggers' cricket match!! what do you guys say.
Secondly we ought to have fantasy cricket here... it s difficult to develop a simple one but maybe, we could all collectively play in some other site and post our scores, standings etc... this could be fun and addictive.
haha...OTT and who would be your international player...? :)
i can very well imagine the plight of non striker scorpy ;-))
infact we delhi bloggers (gaurav, som, sb and me) are planning to meet...and if we can extend it to an all india meet of us nothing like it...
we will have a blast...thats for sure...
SP,
Oh ! International player - Navjot Singh Sidhu - another stroke less wonder.
Good question, SP. My experience is mostly from stick cricket :) Does that count? We had to do both in that game, but I'd call myself a batter, mostly. Bowling was slow right arm. I took my time for the singles. I'd like to say Dravid, but that would be a disgrace to him.
@scorpy, "uncal, uncal, rotate the strike", very funny!
I was mainly a No 3 bat. Was usually sent to defend when a wicket fell early. Was always at covers or point as I was considered to be the best fielder in my group...
Well abt the international player i am like.. unfortunately they never selected me.
promising all-rounder gone god knows what, so i guess that makes me irfan pathan.
i had a very short run up, and i bowled non-spinning medium pace, so that makes me a kumble.
i never bothered about what dire state our team was in (some say i never bothered if we won or lost, but i vehemently deny the charges), and had fun to the best of my ability, so that makes me a dhoni.
and yeah, i batted well, only when the team and me as a batsman were under tremendous pressure, so that would be jayawardene...
oof, tired of so many personalities in me!!
SP,
great post, had fun thinking about those playing days, which aren't long gone for me, but.. oh you know that nostalgic feeling..
OTT...if only warne will agree with that...may be early days yes...bt later on he creamed warne, laid him on platter to be served for sachin and co...
thanks VM...even if you dreamed of cricket you qualify here... :)
there was not an iota of doubt in my mind who you would name as international player...pun intended... ;-))
their loss is our gain TRI... :)
but your details are indicating towards punter...no 3 bat good fielder...
thanks ankit...thats what bcci is all about...
BTW...jayawardene meets irfan...good combination...
SP, thanks. You've started a great thread man - very entertaining to see what other folks did and think of themselves. As for me, I'm becoming too predictable aren't I? :)
batsman: my batting resembled Maninder singh the spinner :)
jokes apart...VM it was your thread which brought more nostalgic memories than mine...i was just carrying the good work fwd...
hohoho AB...do you know maninder has first class century to his name if my memory serves me right...
second that SP.
VM, now we all gotta "stick" to it!
So was I capable of hitting a century too ?!... but Maninder's batting is the closest my batting can resemble too, it's true...but that's life...isn't it ? :)
sp.... perhaps me, otts and john can cook something up... I guess we all are from chennai.
VM... uncaal indeed... had good fun :)
