Lalit Modi in an ad...gaaaaw

by Bored Member

By Scorpicity

Feeling all blue with a rather stubborn flu that has persisted for nearly a week, my channel surfing suddenly brought Lalit Modi in his suit talking about his so-called IPL dream. First thoughts was, this was an initiative by the BCCI for the BCCI to thrown in a brownie for the ICL or some promo for an interview in a sports channel. But no, the shocker came at the end!

It was an ad for Tata Indicom! And Lalit is the brand ambassador!

Ridiculous and even more ridiculous... goodness sake... To start with, what is wrong with Modi?

And even more ridiculous was what that so-called advertising agency was thinking. Do they think Lalit Modi is a hero among the masses that can help sell a product?

Next what, Lalit Modi spraying a can of rexona and people go, "wowee, Lait uses rexona... maaan, we got to go buy one now!"

This has got to be the most weirdest WTF in Indian advertising history.

could've been worse.
Modi as the tailor with SRT in the RBS Ad.

earlier tata indicom had signed on Dada, but after his loss of form they edited him out. Still ran the same ad.

That's like the RBS ad with the tailor dressing a mannequin

I was thinking Kapil singing Country Roads for Mahindra was the best ever (from the other side of course)

I eat my words, at least there you had a world class performer, an athlete. Trying to, sing.

All I could say about this one is (repeating Ottayan) YUCK! in caps...

Wait a minute... You never know, the next TATA Indicom ad with Modi might go like this...

If you don't carry / own a TATA Indicom phone you would be refused entry into any facility owned by BCCI or its affiliates. Be it a player or a spectator.

That should be a fantastic way for them to increase their market share !!

Raja - Kapil's country roads was a classic (ultra mild) before its time. Palmolive ka Jawaab.

That's another terrible one NC... The laughable aspect is that this bank has just come in and the mother branch In Ireland is getting mopped by the sub-prime crisis... If you end up putting your money in this bank, you will most definitely become one with whatever rags is left :).

Otts... more to come... am sure... soon he will be like the big B.

SP.. they are loosing it one nano at a time.

Excellent thought Rajab... maybe that is their plan... and you never know with Modi

I think the same force which ousted Tata from Singur is behind this newest prank to malign the house. Trust me, an apalled Ratan Tata would come out soon with a statement, denouncing the dastardly act.

I think they were smart using his in a ad he has basically CHANGED THE SPORTS WORLD!!!!!!!! what channel did u see it on

Yeah, I saw that too. Ridiculous! Though Ott puts it best. Why not put him all over the BCCI's website? On ICC? Every cricket stadium.

@Rajab, you've certainly got the Modi/IPL tone correctly with that! :)

@Scorpy, I also read that bit about RBS. Wonder if anything is wrong with Skyline constructions as well? Or anything Dhoni endorses? It's taking the argument a little far, but makes you ask the question doesn't it?

Scorpi,

i agree with NC that it could have been worse, with modi doing the tailoring job.

but hey no one is talking about the hero honda ad (hritik, priyanka), or did no one notice that the ad had irfan and sehwag too..

and yeah indicom ad says, "meine apne dil ki baat suni" and that is how lalit came up with IPL or so he says..

but wasn't it more like "meine subhash ki baat suni, BCCI ne bhi suni, aur mujhe kaam mila"..

lalit, ab BCC! ki sun!!

Som... the choice is strange too... another modi... looks like Ratan is in a total modi trip... only ones with the surname of Modi be associated with anything Tata.

Anon,

Can't remember the channel... I think it was discovery... but it now has significant airplay in most channels.

He may have changed the sport but the nuances, principles of advertising and endorsement just doesn't cut it for this brand.

If Lalit Modi endorses a financial product, yes it would be a raging hit! Maybe actually.

VM... don't really know about the Skyline group... but RBS most certainly is in big soup over the sub-prime crisis... very heavy exposure.

It says it was a concept Modi was trying to sell for a very long time.

The question is can we believe this. Is this real?
