how to show your bench is a showpiece...?

by straight point

by announcing dravid in the list of probables for the champions trophy...

it's a pity that when less glamorous players like badrinath...pujara...etc without even given proper chances...get overlooked time and again despite being strong performers...

i hope dravid makes a call himself and announces his retirement from all short forms of games to put mud on the faces of those who don't have guts to test out the players...doubting their abilities without even trying them and are hiding behind the known greats name...to cover their impotency...

Probables: MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Abhishek Nayar, Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, Praveen Kumar, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Ravindra Jadeja, Dinesh Karthik, Munaf Patel, R Ashwin, M Vijay, Amit Mishra, Ajinkya Rahane, Dhawal Kulkarni, S Badrinath, Ashish Nehra, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Singh, Wriddhiman Saha, Pankaj Singh.

They are all there to warm the benches SAM. In any case Vijay, and Ashwin won't make the final eleven and Badri might also be left out with Sachin, Sehwag and probably Dravid returning.

SP, we think alike, especially with Dravid in the picture. I posted a simillar article at TCWJ. Selectors aren't doing a good job. They should first try the untried before even thinking about Dravid. Hope Dravid isn't distracted by all this.

sam...as i said they are there as 'showpiece'... :)

exactly bala...

i dont see why they should panic with what happened in t20 world...they should keep faith on their 'investments' and before hurrying to tried and trusted ones they should have at least have a dekho on emerging ones...

its not going to help anyone...

SP - 'Bluff' is the right word.
There are two things that might have happened:

1. Selectors trying to put a 'message' across to the Rainas and Rohits - perform or perish weare not averse to going back to seniors.

2. Alternately - team management, seeing 'team youngistan-2011' being tested by demon bowlers like Edwards, Bravo and Sidebottom, lost nerve and sent an SOS to the wise men. Wise men have responed in the knee jerk fashion that they usually do.(Forgetting that in late 2006 in SAF, they did pretty much the same)

Wrong on both counts, IMHO.

In the first place, the Rohits / Rainas are still the long terms prospects. Put them on India A tours/ emerging players and put the India A seasoned men (who else but Badri again) in at no 3 and 4.
They missed a trick in leaving out Raina and Rohit from this. And how long are Badri/Mishra/Vijay going to take to 'emerge' fully?

In the second case, the team management should have utilised their bench before asking for Dravid.

Then there is the small matter of Dravid actually making the 15/16 and in the playing 11. The full strength top 5 would be
SRT, Viru, GG, Yuvraj, MSD. Now dont tell Rahul Dravid is going to bat at No6, if he makes to the XI...

yes late...bluff is the right word...

as aptly argued by you the decision to include dravid is wrong on all account...

tho...your last line made me shudder... :)

Selectors are bit like FII's SP. They want profits and not ready to take a hit and bide the time. Short term is their focus and they don't care about the losses to others with long term intersts (in this case players like Pujara and Badri)

in that case they are foolish bala...coz when it will come to encash the investments they will be pauper with the old ones...

what they will do then...?

I agree. Panicking will leave you a pauper. It may not be long before we return to 90's show if selectors continue with blurred vision.
