Outnumbered.

by Naked Cricket

It is no secret that Sangakkara consults with a numerologist before big games.

On the first day of the Motera test, numbers came into play – when MSD was batting on 110, the plan was to have Dammika Prasad, Lanka’s 110th test player bowl at him.

MS was dismissed by Prasad on the very first ball of his 87th over.

As for number 69, Mahela Jayawardene, MSD had no answers. Mahela was all over India.

Of course, once Mahela makes it to 215 it will be a good idea to bring on Bhajji, India’s 215th test player. Other options: Zaks, 231, Yuvi, 247, Ishant 258, and Mishra, 259.

But then knowing the wily old fox, Mahela, he will try his best to avoid the above scores.

If for some reason he refuses to score beyond 204 today, it could be because No. 206, Dravid is waiting at first slip.

Team's been shallow, what to do?

My god, witchcraft! Should've known!

Sri Lanka now 666/5.

I think that's proof of witchcraft, don't you?

I don't get it...what's going on? Is Sri Lanka trying to beat their best score? Is Jaya trying to beat his? Did Sanga accidentally come across Nathan's post and decide he wants to declare at 777? Does Murali know something about the wicket that makes him believe that the Indians will roll over? If this ends up being a draw, there will be questions raised about the declaration. If that happens, of course....wouldn't put it past us to gift it to 'em.

I don't get it either, 700+ is just overkill, and they've now only got a day and a half left to go through two innings.

They're going to bat themselves out of the match; are they honestly waiting for M Jayawardene to pull up the triple-ton?

giving more than five sessions to your bowlers is going for overkill on this wicket and if india manages to draw and i see no reason they can not given the pitch is still true...

eventually there bowlers will be not only frustrated but battle weary given the next match start with three days gap only... hence their continuance with batting...

Just went on statsgur and found out that Prasanna's first class average is 25.62. I've this theory that Dhoni is lulling them into a false sense of security so that he can catch them by surprise in the 2nd test! Or sangakkara is under the impression that difference in runs can be carried over to the next game! Or jayawardene thinks the scorers might credit the double hundred to the wrong jayawardene...hence he is waiting for his partner to make one as well, just in case....

Any takers? or alternate theories?

They know how long they need to bowl us out. They could be wrong about it but I don't think they're batting on because they'll be content with a draw.

Mishra just saved his skin. After all that Jayawardene out bowled.

Funny ol' game cricket.
