Yesterday was a heartbreak to break all hearbreaks !
The high score trend obviously creeps up on us all the time - i mean people my age remember a time when 200 was a par score and 250 a killer one ...RRR creeping up to 6.0 used to be a talking point in a match..from that to now is some distance ...
anyone has any dope on this ? how high run chases have panned out over the years...? will be interesting to see... statisticians and crunchers amongst us , lets hear it if we can ...
What next : 997 = 3 runs short ?

just to add to that : guess it boils down to trend over the years of a. average one innings score b. average total match score ?
One thing is pretty certain... The average score should be around 275 now. 20-20 is causing this is the popular opinion.
well scorp , 20-20 is only 2-3 years old , but the trend started well before that ....300's been a commonish score since when ? maybe around 2002-03 or so..?
guess its a combination of inter-related factors - including an impact on test cricket too of course ....Certainly 20-20 has been a big driver of the trend in the last couple of years...
Year by year record of matches with team batting first scoring 300 or more.

Interesting to see only once in 29 games has a team not defended a 300+ score this year.
Yes Bhaskar, you are right but the frequency to chase 300 plus scores might increase in the next few years.
Mahek shows the stats that points towards the other direction.
quality of bowling.
