udrs: why blame bcci...?

by straight point

bcci has been accused of not implementing the umpire decision review system (udrs) in recent series... and i won't be surprised if the upcoming series against south africa does not feature it as well...

why on earth will someone spend from his own pocket to see umpires like harper give one howler after another even after watching endless replays... in the name of udrs...?

Just don't blame the umpiring when there is no review system to rectify the decisions that go against the Indian team and threaten to cancel a tour unless an umpire is removed.

yes mahek you are right...

even sa and england too threatened to cancel their test series because of umpiring howlers and udrs...

and if it was not for some immediate mediation they would have killed each other on field...

South Africa didn't create much fuss about the system. England did, but then they voted against the system to start with. I found this quote from Simon Barnes. It's funny, sad and thought-provoking.

"If you want an argument in favour of the review system, put Harper on the field; if you want an argument against the system, put Harper in the third umpire's booth."

then you must also read arthur's view on udrs after the england series was over...

you won't believe that me and gaurav were discussing to put this very quote (which i think is the quote of the decade) but i decided to not put it in last minute... :)

You should have, there can't be any better argument for or against the UDRS than what's mentioned in that quote :)

I have read his views and there isn't anything about them that makes me think he's opposed to it. If anything he's called for a standardisation of the system and that's something everyone wants.

Regarding his reservations about the predictive element of Hawkeye, the ICC has done more than enough to cover that aspect by making the margin of error for decision-making much greater than the documented margin of error for the technology. Cricketers aren't the most knowledgeable people when it comes to science so I'm not surprised at their reluctance to trust something they don't understand.

The biggest indictment against the UDRS comes from the man who pushed for its implementation - the UDRS was not tested at domestic level before it was rolled into Tests.. The implication being that Test cricket is now the lab where all these new and fancy innovations will be tested.. So much for the primacy of Test cricket

Cheers,

this was icc bid to keep the test alive... suddenly ppl started to have a keen eye on dismissals... the furor howlers have created despite 'obvious' dismissals has kept test alive... :)
