Bresnan's Ballsy Review

by Samir Chopra

Tim Bresnan's attempt to get his dismissal overturned must rank as one of the silliest DRS appeals yet. Clutching at straws had nothing on this. More proof, if it was needed, that that eternally pampered creature, the batsman, has found more ways to throw a tantrum, that the DRS is far too often, not used to correct wrong decisions, but to merely check, in hope, if some mistake can be found under the lens,

Back To School for U(niversity)DRS

by Bhaskar Khaund

An annoyed ICC thought MSD had his understanding of the DRS rules miles off target and his mouth open something like 2.5 m too wide. So the good folks there have gone ahead and complicated them even further. The relevant rule is now something like this :

If the ball pitches 2.5 m or more in front of the stumps and the distance covered by the ball between pitching and hitting the pads is 40 cm and the sine of the angle between the two as a factor of the cosine within 3 standard deviations of the tangent times pi such that relative velocity is maintained with an alpha coefficient of 0.3 and a cosmic constant of 0.297 on the log scale ceteris paribus , then the decision will be based on a combination of extrapolated determinants drawn from the relevant probability distribution and chi-square analysis.

Any wonder then that the very young and even more talented Mhd. Aamer has decided to go back to school for a , er , spot of education ? A literary-minded old wag was moved to quip the following lines - in quite poor taste one must add :

"O' young rookie !
Thou goest , as it looks
From your bookies
To your books"

Good luck Aamer , be back on the cricket field soon. We need you in the school of international cricket.

From which it appears young K.Akmal could be close to dropping out.

Some ads subtract.

by Bored Guest

According to Nimbus sport, India can use the UDRS (Umpire Decision Review System) if and when the BCCI approves it.

Frankly I’m not very pleased to know that Neo Cricket can handle the technology that UDRS requires. What hassles me are the ads.

After Set Max screwed around with the ads, Neo went a step further during the Asia cup showing ads every damn ball.

Forget the video, Nimbus had audio ads planted where Arun Lal and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan yapped to eternity about this company called Micromaxxx.

Now if BCCI gives UDRS a go, I wonder how thrilled the money bags at Nimbus will be?

I feel sorry for the creative guys. Can you imagine the vague ideas they’ll have to come up with – the scene could be something like...

Dhoni appeals...appeal denied by umpire Harper....Dhoni opts for a review after consulting Harbhajan Singh. And then the unwanted happens...

"And Dhoni has gone for a Tata Docomo review", screams Ravi Shastri...And as soon as he says that, Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Donald join him and the trio sing "tu tu du, tu tu du" – the by now obnoxious Docomo tune as the technology tries and reviews the decision. That goes on for 30 seconds before the decision is made.

Can you take that every review? And if Ravi, Sunny, and Allan refuse to sing, they'll be asked to do something like...

"And Dhoni has gone for the IDEA review", screams Ravi. This time Sunny and Allan, along with Ravi shout, "What an IDEA sirji?"

Also don’t be surprised to hear something like…

“And Ponting has gone for the Manikchand review. Unche log, unchi pasand.”

And if Idea and Docomo don't invest, there’s always micromaxxx.

udrs: why blame bcci...?

by straight point

bcci has been accused of not implementing the umpire decision review system (udrs) in recent series... and i won't be surprised if the upcoming series against south africa does not feature it as well...

why on earth will someone spend from his own pocket to see umpires like harper give one howler after another even after watching endless replays... in the name of udrs...?
