sorry...i couldn't resist myself...so i have to...
i know its for ODIs only but still...the problem with the selection for india's tour of srilanka is that it doesn't give right message to anyone...
whether to the players who are selected like praveen kumar...who can think that he can get away without performing at domestic level...if at all this is the criteria...
or to the players who are not selected like mishra...who will think that licking captain's ass...or to be in his 'in' group is far more qualification to get the nod than performance...
one more dig at current selection...

Agree with the non performance at domestic level but i think justice has been served cos Praveen never deserved to be dropped in the first place. Have u forgotten what he did at the CB series? Why did he go missing after that?
What makes u suggest that Ojha is 'in' the books and Mishra is not?
You are right SP, but I am not fussed about Mishra ji so quickly.
I'd much rather he spends more time in the first couple of years of his new lease of life in Tests with just the odd ODIs. That's ideally speaking of course even though I know it shall not happen.
Mishra doesn't fit yet into the ODI sheme of things. The 10 overs he bowls can b, at this stage, filled up by two-three players. Then the batting and fielding. Not that he's bad but the ODI team is looking for something else.
The policy is clear...gradually they are veering around to 8-9 players who can do at least two things well...fielding is compulsory and not included in those two things.
A pure bat or a pure bowler will have to be exceptional.
I see some definite direction as well...they appear to using this series to check out a few more players...like Jadeja and giving Ojha one more opportunity.
Kohli has been screened and his being dropped does not mean he has been unsatisfactory...like they are doing with Vijay in the Duleep (giving Mukund a chance to push himslef into nationalconsciousness now that Vijay has already done it).
The real culling will start after building a 30-40 strong interchangeable core all-purpose group. 2010 should be the year when we shall see the crystallization of the actual goal-based one-day team.
The idea is to check-see and also to keep in form all players. Form is also an important issue after all.
dhoni is yet to make official announcement on this 'in' group thing so i cant quote him here Q...
but i guess till that happens you will have to rely on mine assessment of this 'in' group...which is blatantly clear to many... :)
not that i am worrying about mishra too much SB...i just quoted his example to drive home the point...
and the way you have explained about selection...am not sure our selectors are capable of so much detailing... :)
SP all teams have factions, all captains have their favorites, and everywhere u find cliques.. my only question is, wat gives u the impression that Mishra is not part of the 'gang' ?
