robbing singh...?

by straight point

carrying on from my post here at BCC!...can you explain mr robin singh...? in which i raised this question...during second test i think...

have you ever anticipated that dravid, sachin and even laxman are not gonna carry on for ever...

being a fielding coach can you lay claim on developing a single slip fielder in all these years...?

i think his case is a clear cut example of sitting on laurels (if any)...relaxed into warming the chair...knowing the job is unchallenged and reserved till he wishes...

we were never a brilliant fielding outfit but at least we were good catchers...more than three years of robin singh at the helm as fielding coach and we can't even claim to be good catchers now...so much for his 'achievements'...

in fact everytime ball goes in the air towards a fielder my heart misses a beat with the possibility of another catch getting grassed...and less said about slip cordon the better...

he has simply failed to inculcate 'fielding' culture in the team...even the players who were good (like yuvraj) now seems to be wanting...he has allowed them to drift away thereby failing to assert himself...

since we won't be playing tests till late this year...i think it's time to say goodbye to him for his services and look for another fielding coach who will bring some fresh perspective and intensity which is clearly lacking in our players these days...

besides the chosen one will get ample time to groom players for the next world cup as well as the challenges of tests...now that we have pronounced that we want to be numero uno...

although dhoni proudly said "we have set the benchmark"... but i firmly believe that any other team with same skill set but better fitness level would have whitewashed kiwis...and that would have been the perfect benchmark...in my opinion...

interesting observation there! about yuvraj and slip fielders actually slipping in their skills after robin was put up at the helm!

yes, we could go for another fielding coach at this stage, plenty of time for WC 11, and almost no tests this year, perfect time for grooming, if we decide to groom..

but dare i say, won't it have to be another foreigner for the post!

i haven't read abt or seen any of the methods that rs uses - guess there's nuthin to write home about, but i'm curious abt

1) if he reports to kirsten, then what's the deal between them

2) how much if any clout does rs have with ind star players

3) what/how long does it take a naturally bad catcher/fielder to improve his ways - sidhu did improve, do munaf and ishant have to take a life, so as to give batsmen less lives

4) does anybody even care abt the small details - is fielding just another tiny url for kirsten

5) who's rs' daddy

6) on a bad day, india's catching is on par with the windies catching on a good day, and don't we know where rs comes from

7)is the bcci trying to make up for rs' late debut and so few years in intl cricket

ok, that's 7 - n if that's good enuff for som...

SP,

i thought about jonty too, only that it made a very funny prospect in my head, no jonty was a great player, no problems with that..

only that Ind will have a SA team in their coaching staff, weren't both of them the members of the 99 chokers' team?!

NC, I just saw a copyright violation of my trademark 7.

SP, Robin Singh's is an inexplicable presence in the support staff. I have seen Russell Radhakrishnan, that logistic manager, leading the drill in nets. This Robin is no good as a sidekick of the Batmen.

i was about to say what som has already said...no infringement on bored members right NC! :)

on serious note what you have raised are very good points and makes a post in itself for further discussion...

som...so i have rightly named him robbing singh? :)

It's a great point - I do think India's one weakness these days is fielding, along with maybe genuine pace bowlers (but everybody needs those). But I'm not sure how much of this is the coach's fault - a lot of these guys on the test team are just old, and Ishant Sharma and Munaf hardly seem like elite athletes.
On the other hand Indian cricket always seems to have huge problems with freeloading and corruption...

thanks ron...

though some players are natural athlete but with regular practice and concentrated effort from coach can make them atleast average fielder...that's where i think robin has failed miserably...he has allowed player drift away from it...he must go...

The problem with us is when it is suggested that we invest a bit of our time in reassesing and rating our performance, we prefere instead, to take offence.

I have seen Robbing Singh become prickly on TV when someone asked him the question wayyyyy back in 2007. Then he had a leg to stand upon...he was new.

Ferget Robbing Singh, isn't Gary K supposed to be from a land which prides itself on its fielding?

What is more worrying is that most things are the same. It doesn't appear that coaches and support staff have been able to make a difference to players, except to the ones who are committed themselves.
