Overheard by a Bored Representative.
ICC Chief: Zimbabwe have opted out of the ICC World Twenty20. We would like to invite you to the event as the 12th team.
Scotland Cricket Board CEO: When is it being played?
ICC Chief: June 2009. We have a 16 day slot.
SCB CEO: Sure thing, but its difficult you know for our cricketers to get official leaves. Their salaries get slashed for everyday they miss, and we can't compensate them enough for that.
ICC Chief: That is not a worry. The event is being played in England. Your guys can come down for the matches, and go back to work when they have to. Its just a 7-hr drive away Scotland, isn't it?
SCB CEO: That will be too tiring, but we won't be required for 16 days will we? Whats the format?
ICC Chief: Oh 3 teams in a pool, 2 round 1 games each, top 2 to the Super 8s, t ...
SCB CEO (interrupting): Which means we need to be there for only 2 games then.
ICC Chief: Well in theory yeah, but ...
SCB CEO: Don't worry about that. Just schedule our 2 games on the weekend, 1 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. We'll fly the boys down on Friday night. They can play some cricket on the weekend and be back home in time to get to work on Monday. No one gets salary cuts, you get your 12th team, and we get to participate.
ICC Chief: Sounds good. See ya on the 6th of June.
