Overheard by a Bored Representative.
ICC Chief: Zimbabwe have opted out of the ICC World Twenty20. We would like to invite you to the event as the 12th team.
Scotland Cricket Board CEO: When is it being played?
ICC Chief: June 2009. We have a 16 day slot.
SCB CEO: Sure thing, but its difficult you know for our cricketers to get official leaves. Their salaries get slashed for everyday they miss, and we can't compensate them enough for that.
ICC Chief: That is not a worry. The event is being played in England. Your guys can come down for the matches, and go back to work when they have to. Its just a 7-hr drive away Scotland, isn't it?
SCB CEO: That will be too tiring, but we won't be required for 16 days will we? Whats the format?
ICC Chief: Oh 3 teams in a pool, 2 round 1 games each, top 2 to the Super 8s, t ...
SCB CEO (interrupting): Which means we need to be there for only 2 games then.
ICC Chief: Well in theory yeah, but ...
SCB CEO: Don't worry about that. Just schedule our 2 games on the weekend, 1 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. We'll fly the boys down on Friday night. They can play some cricket on the weekend and be back home in time to get to work on Monday. No one gets salary cuts, you get your 12th team, and we get to participate.
ICC Chief: Sounds good. See ya on the 6th of June.

Why Scotland are playing back-to-back matches at the ICC World T20
T20 WC TRIVIA - 2 : Longest T20WC Six
Chris Gayle's mortal assault on Brett Lee this evening led me to do some research on this subj.
Did you know : The longest six connected with T20 WC was hit by one Brent Burgess of Bloxington, Yorkshire. This beefy 23 year old lad was one of several youngsters called in by the ECB to help pre-test various technical and other aspects of hosting the innaugural T20 WC in 2005.
During a demo session at The Oval , Burgess biffed a monster pull that sailed over the midwicket boundary , clean cleared the stadium and- to the great astonishment of the traffic policeman stationed there - landed at the Tesco intersection nearly a kilometer away. To be precise , it measured 986.3 metres.
"Harumph , yeasss , always raining , innit ?" was Constable Bradbury's rather measured reponse to journos later.
Burgess himself was fairly nonplussed : "Must 'aave b'n th' Sunday roast me mum roostle'd oop , wa'nt 'alf baad thaat , seeing asa 'ow i' wa' rooning into this maatch"
The 2005 edition was subsequently postponed to 2007 in South Africa. Whether Burgess had a part to play in that is unclear. But certainly the high-tech GravityStat chips implanted into cricket balls now has to be a direct fallout of that massive blow dealt by Burgess four years ago.
T20 WC TRIVIA : Scotland are no Giant Killer ...
...but could well be Monster Fishers.
Did you know Scotland captain Gavin Hamilton spent most of his childhood fishing for the Loch Ness monster ?
Hamiton told interviewers he continued to believed in the mythical Loch Ness monster well into his teens and often tried fishing for it.
However , he denied being part of Loch Koch BGosh the little known cult that gathers en mass every year to feed the Loch Ness monster.
Meanwhile , Hamilton's team did their utmost today to ensure they succumbed to the Kiwis despite a strong initial foothold in the match and a chance to produce another giant kill in the current WC
Going by their efforts (lack thereof) on the field , 'fisher of monstrosity' would perhaps be more apt.
T20WC BREAKING NEWS : Symonds Stays To Perform
London / Sydney Jun 4 GMT 18:00 - In a surprising turn of events , it has been revealed that Andrew Symonds will remain in England and not have to return to Australia. This follows hectic last minute negotiations between Cricket Australia (CA) and the ICC. that carried late into the Australian night .
CA had recalled the often-in-the-news allrounder yesterday citing what it termed breach of discipline and alcohol abuse.
In an unexpected twist , it has been announced that Symonds will now stay on in England to perform during the Opening Ceremony. Symonds who also plays guitar with his Australia team mate Brett Lee in their band All Out No Doubt will share the stage with musicians Sting , Mark Knopfler and Elton John at a glittering Opening Ceremony that takes place tommorow. Interestingly , another mate Mathew Hayden will perform a Laser Surfing stunt. Bollywood stars Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu are also expected to perform at the $ 13.5 million extravaganza that will also feature , among other things , a giant crystal replica of the Taj Mahal and original mould cast model Dinosaurs from the Jurassic Park sets - ANNW
