Herath today, gone tomorrow.

by Gaurav Sethi

Mendis and Herath are swapping places like car keys. Previous test Mendis played, this one Herath. While Mendis has played six tests in 2009, Herath’s played in four.

Frankly it’s a little much to be talking about Herath and Mendis, but this is the off season. There’s also been some talk of Samaraweera the Bullet here. But he’s a batsman. Herath and Mendis are spinners, one a left armer, the other, who cares, he’s not even in the team.

While Hearath made his test debut in 1999, he was out of the team for yonks. Since the Pak home series, he’s scalped 21* in four tests. In six this year Mendis has 16 wickets.

Herath has two five fors against Pakistan. Mendis, none.

Yet Mendis was picked in Herath’s place for the first test against New Zealand. Free wickets to be had, but he only picked 3 wickets. So far Herath has six at Colombo – five more to go.

Still, don’t be surprised if he’s dropped for Mendis again. But we’ll never know, by then India should be playing again.

Man, I really do hope that they send Mendis back to the drawing room...he's a bit like Hughes, in that he had a fantastic start to his career, but was later found out!

If there's one thing I'll guarantee you, the Indians will cart him out of the park if he plays in November...that magic seems to only last for the first time that a team sees Mendis...

you think Mendis will play against us and our batsmen would fall like cards of BJP before him ?

Frankly, Sam, you seem to have a notion that India is the only team in the world and that all other teams are equal to associates....this extends to misconstruing my comments as insulting Indian batsmen....in case you weren't wearing your spectacles, I meant that the Indian batsmen would be able to smash Mendis to all parts of the ground...

Why did I even reply to you! :I

CT, Mendis look very anxious, guess that happens if you don't take wickets, but there's a marked change in his demeanour. Some more army time, he'll be ok.

The variety and initial hype aside, think it was his accuracy that got him wickets.

Sam, you never know. When in a batsman's mind, demons are a strange thing

@NC

Mendis was never in the army, the media just like to latch onto something which will enable them to sensationalise a normal story....the Army Sports Club recruited Mendis, but his mam let Army SC take him on the condition that he wouldn't be put in the battlefield!

I know you meant it as a joke, but just thought that you would be better off knowing facts

CT, good point. Would you like to make a post out of the point, for Bored?
