The Ranji Schedule
----
Rohit Sharma will captain the Board President's XI against the visiting Sri Lankans in a three-day tour opener to be played in Mumbai from November 11 to 13. The 14-man squad, announced by the selectors in Nagpur today, also includes Robin Uthappa who was named vice-captain after an impressive showing in the Champions League Twenty20.

Karnataka play Delhi.. Delhi loses Sangwan, Karnataka Uthappa. Mumbai loses 4 players, Bengal 3. And Bengal are playing Baroda.

What should have been a post congratulating the selectors on a job well done( the BP XI composition is very interesting, to say the least) ends with me questioning the genius who decided to schedule the BP XI game to run parallel to the Ranji Trophy.!

Homer, the same guys who scheduled the Irani and Challenger to coincide with the Champions League earlier this month.

Now if only the CT was on too, that would've been a challenge for them.

In a way, it's not so bad, as it is Rohit Sharma is all over the place. He should play both.

Who writes this rubbish, and worse, why are T20 tournament performances apparently the basis for picking players in a 3 day match? Robin Uthappa scored 116 runs off 91 balls in four matches (avg 29, SR 126), and if I remember cricinfo's commentary correctly, his innings contained a mixture of wild slogs and plays and misses. I seriously hope the reason for his selection was good domestic performances in the longer format (and I do remember a few scorecards which indicated this, not sure) and not his "reputation" as an ex-ODI player.
Somebody please tell me Che is still injured and thats the reason he didn't make it.

NC,

The damage there ios not as significant as here - Bengal just about managed to make it to the Elite group this year after being in the Plate League last year. And getting back Abhishek Jhunjhunwala and Rohan Gavaskar makes them legitimate contenders. Now they stand to lose 3 of their stalwarts.

Then there is Dilli.. With India playing its final ODI on the 11th, there is every possibility that Dilli will miss the new ball pairing of Ishant and Nehra.. take away Sangwan and you have Rajat Bhatia taking the new ball. Now, wont Rahul Dravid will be chomping at the bit when faced with that prospect :)

Cheers,
