Incredible, after my Dad you're the second person on to Powar today.

thanks nc!

just to jolt some egos who still believe he is the best off spinner in the country...

let power give the assurance of a series at home and people will start to see what the loop and flight means when batsmen have to raise their eye level to catch the ball...

I was expecting BeLittle Master Kambli to make a comeback in ur team ;)

Good one SP. Agree with your team whole-heartedly. I'd like to have Badri and M Vijay as reserves and boot out Viru if he continues to throw his wicket away cheaply like this. Che for Yuvi is a good pick.
And am I the only one to think this will be The Lax Man's last series? I mean, he will be booted out with one failure series(remember GKV?) - and me thinks this will be it. Have Badri on standby.

indeed raj...

i wanted to change and edit the post after i saw him play that daft shot... really man he is on some ego trip where he sees nothing but himself...

i agree... badri and vijay/mukund should be standby...

Powar????!!! What's the deal with Che, anyway. I get he's scored a ton of runs in the Ranji, but then so has Jaffer....he's untested outside India and at the International level. There's must be a reason that Raina and Sharma have got so many chances whaen the three of them are the same age..

Mahek said...

The whole argument about Pujara not being tested abroad is rubbish. How much cricket had Raina and Nohit played abroad before they were picked? I'm fine with him waiting his chance for another season though, that will only mean he is that much better when he comes into international cricket.

Pujara is the youngest of the three. In fact, Raina was one class ahead of Sharma and Pujara in the U-19 team. Pujara outscored Sharma in the 2006 U-19 World Cup. But then he plays for Saurashtra while Sharma plays for Mumbai and Raina plays for UP. That's a big reason for Pujara not getting the chances the other two have got. You have Sunny and Shite orgasm over every false shot Nohit plays but there's no one to talk about Pujara because Saurashtra doesn't really have a lobby.

Rohit said...

I'm not saying Pujara may not turn out to be the future of Indian batting. By all accounts, he has all the qualities necessary to be successful at the top level. But some players just don't make the transition to International cricket despite having the ability, for various reasons. Powar is an excellent example. Even Jaffer outscored Pujara in the last season, but we know that his technique turns to putty whenever he boards the plane. All I'm saying is that don't expect him to set the world on fire when he does debut. He may or he may not. Assuming he'll pick up from where one of the big four left off is just being unrealistic.

Not so sure the lobby is to blame as well. Rohit 'Nohit' Sharma has outdone Pujara in key tournaments, like last year's challenger trophy for example. He looked a different class altogether from the rest of the field. Raina, on the other hand was a wunderkind of sorts, being selected for India at the age of 18. It'll be interesting to see who amongst the three will be given the first shot when a place opens up in the test middle order....

straight point said...

rohit i think you seriously look at che for dummies link first to know what the guy has done till now and compare it with rohits and rainas... may be then we will talk... :)

Mahek said...

How do you gauge a player's ability to play test cricket on the basis of a Limited Overs Tournament?

Sunny and Shite have everyone talking about Nohit's "talent" and "ability" when it's only runs that matter. These are the guys who would pick Ian Bell and Ravi Bopara over Paul Collingwood just because of who has the better looking cover drive. Raina is a bit better than Nohit but even he needs to tighten up if he wants to be a test cricketer.

@ straight point...

I know that 'Che' is awesome and all that but that doesn't guarantee success. Both Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv have higher first class averages than Dhoni, but neither made the kind of smooth transition that Dhoni did to international cricket. It depends on a lot of things including mental strength and the ability to improve. Cricket is littered with examples of unrealized potential like Mark Ramprakash and Vinod Kambli to prove my case.

@ Mahek...

Sunny and Shite are some of the best cricketers we've ever had...it's not like charu sharma is saying it! These guys do sound like nincompoops at times but it would be very harsh to say that they have no ability to judge talent!

Don't know about Bell, but Bopara is 10 years younger than Collingwood.....so we'll see about that. I'm a bit of a Bopara backer myself!

raj said...

Well, Karthik and Parthiv didnt make it doesnt mean Che will not make it.
Here's the deal: We have already tried Rohit and Raina, and they arent the real deal yet, are they? Why not try Che as well, and come to a conclusion? If he is the same as them, then keep your options open. If he makes the grade immediately, great, you have a solution on hand.

Same goes for Harby - just rest him and give a chance to others.. If they fail, fine, we can come back to Durby. Else, you have a solution on your hands. Keeping on saying TINA to Harby is stupid when you havent tried out the others...

straight point said...

thanks rohit... now that you know what he has achieved we can talk on even keels...

i know there is notion that they should not be hurried to international arena coz they might get find out... but dont you think on same token why the youth or age of a player should be held against him...?

why he should not be given his due right to fail...? just coz we 'think' it will not be feasible...

tomorrow if one of the selector think that bhajji or any other bowler wont be able to take more than couple of wickets and drops him or not select him... will that be right...?

are you sure that this perception is the right way to select or drop a player...?

lets not deny anybody his right to fail i would say...

straight point said...

indeed raj...

we give too much emphasis to tine factor when the fact is i have not even met tina yet... ;-)

(if you know what i mean)

I'd like to see atleast one if not two out of Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman rested for the test series in Bangladesh. Playing Bangladesh is just a notch above playing first class cricket so let's see how Badrinath/Pujara/Raina/Nohit perform.

Mahek said...

SP, it's high time Dhoni changed his thinking from TINA or HINA.

Rohit, Bopara is just another "stylish" batsman who has a long long way to go before being taken seriously as a test bat. As for Sunny and Shite, they're not much better than the local panwala. Bring in a player from Mumbai and these two will start touching themselves. That they're not as bad as Charu Sharma only speaks volumes of how bad Indian commentators are.

straight point said...

exactly the point i was discussing today with som i think...

we should rest some senior guys and make that series our investment for future...

but tell you mahek... some of players would say when we have this chance to boost our averages... you are resting us...? :)

Mahek said...

These batsmen made merry on the tour of Bangladesh in 2007. If the board is serious about planning for the future then it should ensure the youngsters get a chance.

BTW, has anyone told Sunny and Shite about Pujara? I've never heard either of them mention the kid. It's always about Nohit for them.

straight point said...

you bet he is making enough noises thru his bat and we at BCC! thru our blog... :)
