where is fawad alam now...?

by straight point

talk of fawad alam as the next messiah of pak cricket made me wonder what is the fassad (hype) about fawad alam...?

then he debuted against srilanka in tests and to be fair to him... lived up to expectation... that too coming in at an alien position...opening the innings which he hadn't even done at first class level...

now you see pakistan playing in the all important champions trophy (at least younis khan says so) and one was baffled to see the pakistan final eleven minus fawad...

which made me wonder if younis can call on fawad to open in tests which are the highest level of cricket... why not ask him to do the same at a much easier position in odis...?

specially when it is clear to all and sundry that imran nazir's selection as opener is based more on hope rather than conviction... the hope that one day he will blast the opposition out of the game... he may well do it... but the gap between that innings and the normal innings he plays is so wide that even north and south pole appear closer in comparison... more than that there is still no evidence that he has improved his game or temperament even a bit...

instead of nazir there is an option of solidity plus aggression when needed in the form of fawad alam... but strangely he has been kept aside for flimsy reasons...

if left to me...when fit, younis can return in place of a struggling misbah while fawad alam + kamran / malik can open the batting... without affecting balance of the team...

He definitely has the raw ability and talent. Against common wisdom, we picked Fawad as the player to watch from the Pak squad, but then at our blog, we pretty much SUCK balls at predictions.

I hope he makes it in the final XI , so that we atleast get something right dammit!

Tell me about it, he was in my XI, had to change him last minute. They already cost me a substitution, and Pak a game.

Nazir will be allowed to fail once more, but Pak's got him in the side to go nuts on Saturday.

Fawad should be in for Misbah, on second thoughts anybody should be in for Misbah.

nc... i am still struggling to find an answer to the puzzle why the dropped nazir at first place if he was that good a player... coz even after he debuted quite some time ago his game has not changed a bit...

about misbah... yes anybody but him... enough of seeing him...

nazir was a rebel! hence all this hoopla!

to be fair fawad did not play in the last 3 matches of the Sri lanka series (2 ODIs and the T20) so this was on the cards!

anyhow nazir was in some sort of form with quickfire 30-50 range scores towards the fag end of the series in sri lanka!

Hoping the continue with him and he gets a Golden Duck on 26th!!

SP Fawad did scored a century on debut but in the remaining five innings he failed miserably scoring not more than 16 in an innings. In Odi's he wasted too mnay balls and failed to live up to his reputation as a result he is on the bench.

I think Fawad's position has been taken over by Umar Akmal who has displayed far better technique and also scored runs at a much higher Strike rate.

I agree with you on Imran Nazir his shot selection and technique hasn't improved but I guess Pakistan are willing to take this risk as if he gets going Pakistan can easily role over on any opposition. If Younis Khan returns against India then I am sure Nazir will be dropped which I believe will be a mistake. The success rate of batsmen of his breed is not very high but when they score their teams usually win.

Misbah will face the axe sooner or later.

If YK returns I would drop Misbah and would keep both Malik and Nazir.

yes wasim misbah is fast becoming an eye-sore...

at the same time its harsh to drop a player like fawad without giving him proper chances against the fetish of unknown... which nazir is...

Pakistan need better openers of course but Fawad even have a lot of promise and talent he doesn't have the right technique. He shuffled too much and in SA conditions with some help for bowlers with bounce and movement he is very vulnerable to fast bowling.

Plus he had this mysterious thing with him he is doing too many tours with Pak team but all on benches sigh!

RS

mysterious thing you are talking about is not in his hands... :)

there are many international players who shuffle successfully katich and c'paul names come straightaway in mind...

more than that... would you really like to see nazir who flashes at ball on hope irrespective of conditions or a player who has been your highest scorer in all forms at domestic level...?
