Anyone watch Dhoni bowl?

by Gaurav Sethi

MS Dhoni bowled in the Corporate Trophy Finals. He put on his best Italian suit, tossed 3 overs for 24. Question is, did he  have his gloves on? If you saw him bowl, you can spill here, and it'll go up as a post. A ride in MSD's Hummer is optional.

make praveen kumar don irfan pathan's role as an allrounder...

by straight point

two interesting things happened in the corporate trophy recently...

praveen kumar opened the innings while his ongc captain, gautam gambhir came down at no. 3...

...and irfan pathan was not deemed fit to play even in the domestic games now...he didn't get a single game for air india red captained by his ipl skipper yuvraj singh... i googled but there was nothing which indicated that he didn't play coz of injury etc... so we can safely assume he didn't play for cricketing reasons...

this got me thinking if praveen has the experience to open in domestic circles... why can't india use him as the all rounder they have been looking for since irfan's demise...?

he bats very late in the order which leaves him with no option but to slog his way thru... i am sure if given responsibility and nurtured by a watchful coach... he has the talent to turn into a good all rounder... much better than other pathan, yusuf pathan... who i still wonder... how has he managed to keep himself floating in the team by doing virtually nothing of note in the odis...

at least this way we can play two front line spinners in harbhajan and mishra with kumar sharing the pace bowling burden with either zaheer (when fit) and ishant or ashish nehra and ishant as of now... making the over all balance of team india look good for all conditions...

The ugliest shot.

by Gaurav Sethi

Last man, Munaf Patel at the crease for ONGC. Mangella bowls a slower one, Munaf drags it past a diving Uthappa at mid on for four. It was one of those shots where you’d think he hit it twice. The ball had no shape, neither did the shot – Munaf looked on, with those black holes for eyes. It was an ugly cricket moment, yet it was fascinating. Next, off drives one for four. Siva mistook it for one of Ishant’s. Such is life.

Also consider Munaf’s shot selection: Leave stumps, get in line with ball and play beyond point to third man. Played this ball after ball unless he was driving for four. On one such shot he called for a quick single that went unanswered. His response: “Areh Yaar!” So much sorrow in that voice.

Unfortunately, Ishant mistimed one to Uthappa. Siva didn’t mistake him for Munaf. And so, an ugly innings was cut short in its prime.

...and you thought its just a corporate trophy...

Balaji fired in a well-directed bouncer. A surprised Raina hopped to fend it off but at the last minute, perhaps due to the lack of sharp pace from Balaji, swayed away. That sign of weakness was enough for Dravid.

Next over, with the quicker Tyagi, Dravid waited till Raina took strike before making his moves. He brought a short square leg and moved a man into leg gully. All this was done within Raina's line of sight.

this was just beginning of how ruthlessly dravid went all the way to expose raina's weakness against short pitch bowling in his quest for a win... though raina somehow passed the phase and went on to play match winning innings... leaving dravid and his bowlers exhausted in frustration...

if there was any proof needed that with what intensity and competitiveness the corporate trophy matches are being played... this is it... not an inch given nor asked for...

Bored question: A moral angle to the BCCI corporate trophy

by RajaB

Who is a professional cricketer?

A guy who plays cricket for a living.

Now if this guy is contracted by say, a BCCI he becomes BCCI’s employee.

BCCI is not like IAAF which is a quasi-government organization. It is a private non-governmental society. And to add to this, the players who come under IAAF's purview are mostly amateurs.

BCCI is more or less a corporate by itself.

So when the BCCI organizes a corporate trophy, is it ethical that the BCCI contracted professional cricketers turn out for another corporate ?

So can anyone explain…

What is corporate ? And what is corporate cricket ??

Sachin Tendulkar is unemployed.

by Gaurav Sethi

Sahara BCCI Corporate Trophy Update (TOI) : Thanks to the BCCI's insistence that all players turn out for their respective corporates , only four from the current Sri Lanka bound squad will not participate: Sachin Tendulkar is not employed by anyone and the trio of Ashish Nehra, Yusuf Pathan and Dinesh Karthik are employed with teams not figuring in the first edition of the tournament.

Who are Jatman's employers? And what about Che and Freesanth?
