Jatman: Never tell a Sri Lankan to bowl a super over

by Gaurav Sethi

Mendis and Murali, arguably both Sri Lankans, have both bowled super overs – they both lost it for their teams. Captain Raina disagreed, throwing that “cricket is a team sport, and we collectively lost it” logic. Murali disagreed with Raina taking complete credit for the defeat.

When contacted Mendis claimed he did not remember playing in the IPL, leave alone bowling a super over.

Jatman had an altogether different take – appears when the Daredevils hand Dilshan or Maharoof the ball, they are also told, “Do anything, but don’t bowl a super over”

No doubt like the IPL, that’s a good joke, but usually the batsman has the last laugh. Dilshan’s last over was anything but super and went for 6, 6, 6, though not in that order – it was anarchy.

As for Maharoof, like Dilshan, he too has been dropped to concentrate on not bowling a ‘super over’.

A Super Over after a super Ashes test match.

Take that Twenty20 and shove it up your abridged a*se. That last hour, that last hour, was that something, or was that something. If you weren’t there, suck the highlights out of space or Sky. Watch them, and then we shall talk.

As England’s latest darlings drew closer to a draw, and the ‘remaining overs’ meter kept ticking – 11, 10, 9, 8 – also bear in mind, two overs for change-over in case England wangle a lead. And then this dirty T20ish thought crossed my mind – we could be in for a Super Over. With Australia set a target of a modest 16 of 6 balls. Who would bowl? What fields? Tasty or what? Who would you have bowled, Flintoff, right? Or Jimmy Boy Anderson, Champion of Cardiff? Or still better, do a John Buchanan, and get Monty on?

And who would Ponting send in to bat? The regular openers or Haddin and Johnson?

NC moment of what match was that

by Gaurav Sethi

Cable TV returns with two overs to go, frankly with a KKR game that’s all you need. Last ball win, what an anti climax. Saha could've done better- left the wide one from Raina alone, taken the game into the super over, and laid those demons to rest once and for all. And for good measure they could have given Mendis the ball.
