Series to Series OR Oh I'm Happy, Hope You're Happy Too!

by achettup

Inspired by the genius of N. Srinivasan's "They cannot beat us here and we will feel very happy" and urm (sorry to put you in the same sentence champ), David Bowie

Series To Series

Do you remember a team that's been
In such a grisly loss
I've heard a rumour from Board Control
Oh no, don't say its true

They got a message
from the Chairy Man
"Oh I'm happy, and you'll be happy too
We've lost
All we had to lose
Domestic T20 following" ;)

The shrieking journos are grinning
Just pictures of stars gone by
in sinking ships
Ain't got no future and ain't got no care
But we're hoping to clip the past it bellowing

Series to series, humped by Humpty
We know CSK's Boss is
a numpty
Sprung out as cricket lies
hurtling to an all time low

Time and again they tell us all
White washes happen now and again
But the little blue caps turn purple and orange
Oh no, not again
Getting rich with our valuable friends
"Oh we're happy, we've made you happy too"
One flash in the pan
but its happened yet again

I've never done good things
I've never done bad things
I've never done anything for the men in the blue
Want to axe a senior or two?
Wanna see a home win instead?

Series to series, humped by Humpty
We know CSK's Boss is
a numpty
Sprung out as cricket lies
hurtling to an all time low

My chairman says
to get things won
you better not stray
outside homely dens

Sing it, it can't be half as loony as the bleatings emanating from our administocrats:

Sydney 2012: What Controversy Would You Like To See?

by achettup

2008, meh. Shoddy umpiring, batsman standing after edging, the odd racist ('allegedly') remark, match refs blah blah.. Happens just about every game. And they called that controversial. No, we think the bar can be set a lot higher in 2012, which of these inflammable events would you like to see at Sydney during this year's New Year Test?
  1. Bhajji and Symonds spotted sitting together in the crowd, incessantly booing Clarke and Sachin
  2. Cricket Australia springs a surprise and brings in a special DRS (dirty rotten scoundrel) umpire - STEVE BUCKNOR!
  3. Sunil Gavaskar becomes the first ex-international cricketer to streak the SCG during the post match ceremony, all the while screaming "Mind you, the balls might be in the right place, but they still have to be put away." He is banned and never allowed back during the post match ceremony.. oh, wait, that happened last time too, right?
  4. Sachin is batting on 98*, plays his trademark tuck to square leg and hairs off for a double. But as he leaves the bowler's end, Peter Siddle pulls Sach's pants down and starts laughing, Sachin wallops him with his bat thereby improving Siddle's appearance ten-fold and starts to pull his trousers up just as Laxman runs past him (thinking he's completing the second run) to the bowler's crease. The stumps are broken at the batsman's end and Sachin is run out on 99.
  5. India crash to a humiliating innings defeat and 400 runs, and a very drunk Rahul Dravid says in a post match interview "Well all I can say is only one team was playing with the right spirits in the match."
  6. A sensationalist tabloid trash newspaper, whose initials might or might not be TOI, contracts Nasser Hussain to cover the Test while getting a few jibes in at the Aussies. Hussain pokes fun of Warner and Ponting's fielding, calling them "a pair of Asses". He then strikes that out and replaces it with "pack of wild donkeys". He then strikes out donkeys and replaces it with (teri don ki *wink wink*).
  7. Everybody shuts up about the decision review system. ITS LIKE IT DOESN'T EXIST.
  8. Ishant Sharma gets a plain to see inside edge onto his pads which pops up for an easy catch to short leg. Erasmus appears unmoved by Cowan's appeal for the edge and catch, and Ishant screams "Karma is a bitch Eddie", just as Erasmus rules him out LBW.
  9. Dhoni refuses to play unless the BCCI sends in a charter flight to evict three certain Indians (and their stupid tweeting phones) in the crowd who have followed the team's losses in England and brought their (bad) luck to Australia too. Rohit Sharma immediately says he's mentally prepared to keep wickets too, so the BCCI declines. It is to be the costliest error they have made in a while.

is it this simple...?

by straight point

fellow blogger kartikeya wrote a post in disagreement of manjrekar's observations that india lacked 'mental discipline' and concluded it with his interpretations as...

A simpler and more reasonable analysis of the game, which does not dip into stereotypes about "Australia coming hard at India", would be that both batting line ups went hard at the opposition bowling - Australia's assault came off, while India's didn't.

needless to say... i do not agree with K's simplistic conclusion...

first... australia's assault paid off coz india was bowling filth... it was buffet bowling and those who watched the match would agree with me that it was a mystery why oz were still going at only 10 rpo then... they were not at risk of losing their wickets unless they were bored of hitting sixes... it was that bad bowling...

but when india came to bat the target was still stiff... 9rpo from outset is stiff asking rate and when pitch is favoring certain kind of bowling it becomes even more stiffer...

where our batsmen faulted was that they went blindly for their shots irrespective of the fact that bowlers were bowling really well... that the short balls were hitting the upper part of their bats... that they were hurried to play the shots...

now it's easy to say our counter attack not came off... they were not robots who were programmed to behave particular ways... we are talking about international level batsmen here... and though t20 game is a bang bang cricket it still leaves some scope for 'mind over matter' kind of batting...

as an international batsman you are supposed to quickly size up the situation and mold your approach accordingly... the shots gambhir and raina played before getting out proves the point... both were late in playing the pull shots... the ball hit the bat rather than the other way around... but still they looked adamant on playing those shots countering the sharp bounce and perished...

in the end we needed 50 odd runs in last three overs with no batsman to follow... considering that in t20 game chasing 30 runs in last three overs is a par target... had our top order batsmen shown some grit to grind it out we could have got more opportunities to close the gap of those 20 runs in first 17 overs...

india played the similar game against south africa when in first 10 overs they looked behind the eight balls but preserved their wickets to compensate it in later overs and set almost the same target they were chasing against australia... they needed to adopt the similar approach against australia but they lacked the same discipline hence failed miserably... the match was as good as over inside first six overs itself...

The Ins & Outs of India's ODI selection

by Gaurav Sethi

Ins: Sudeep Tyagi, Ravindra Jadeja, Munaf Patel, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh

Outs: Rahul Dravid, Dinesh Karthik, Yusuf Pathan, RP Singh, Abhishek Nayar

First the outs - Yusuf Pathan (OO7*) who has made first and second ball ducks an art form should be dropped from his family team. I can’t see Irfan bowling to him anymore, where’s the challenge. For Yusuf it’s back to book cricket with the sisters.

If you watched Yusuf’s application in the Challenger final, you’d want him to stop playing cricket in ads too. It was a resplendent second ball duck. He came in at 5 for nothing and by the second ball, he was ready to explode – wanted to hit a six, instead a lofted drive to mid off. Catching practise made sleazy.

I won’t miss Yusuf, but the scorers will - he gave them a lazy time.

Dinesh Karthik (DKNY): He wasted form and good starts, from the Caribbean where a hundred was up for grabs to wherever else injuries to others took him. On closer observation, it appears DKNY was injured too. MSD hurt him. He is that touchy, playing with MS just doesn’t agree with him. Look at him with the Daredevils, you’d think he was India’s first choice batsman keeper. But he’s born for the little leagues till MSD shoots himself in the foot.

RP Singh: To watch him bowl in the last few months has been rough. Both line and length fell apart, evidently he never read McGrath’s book by that name. He was born to play for the Deccan Chargers. India happened by accident. He still talks of that in-swinger that got KP, it’s the only good ball he ever bowled for India.

Abhishek Nayar: Hey, was he in the team? Didn’t see him, but then neither did MS.

Rahul Dravid: Nobody knows how he got in. So how will you know how he got out? Be terribly funny if he scores big and fast for BRC in the next few games. The other day Dravid talked funny in a game taking digs at his own fielding. It was good except he said mate more than Greg Chappell said mate. Not a good sign on national television. The word was out, ‘he is not one of us!’ He was check mated.

*In his fledling ODI career Yusuf now has 7 ODI ducks to his name. Of course, it would be more, but who's counting.

Next the Ins.
