If only I had updated my FB status
Before #IndvsPak match, 'ItDoesntGetBiggerThanThis.com' receives Facebook funding.
(However plausible this may sound, this is largely a work of fiction.)
Wanted: DRS for online piracy
To eke out a few Likes on Facebook, some thugs will pass off your updates as their own. If they could, they'd pass off your selfies as their own. Not surprising then, that a bunch of FB cricket pages (with hundreds of thousands of followers) do this day in and day out, post after post. Do they hire a bunch of underage kids, lock them up in a sweatshop and make them pry through trending topics - "oh wow! #IndvsPak, #ViratKohli, 231 Likes, 159 shares, Troll sir very happy when he sees this". Ace photoshoppist @NotDavidWarner nails it - "Facebook? Don't even bother trying to police. At least 20 crappy meme sites exist, and they have no talent other than stealing content, just make your watermark bigger than theirs, if that's possible."

There's no Love button on facebook
How was your cricket?
My cricket uncle, I call him that as that was a connect I had with him, asked his grandson, in September, 2009, among other things, how was your cricket? To me, that is all encompassing – in three words, Grandfather connects with grandson, friend to friend, man to man, boy to boy.
I chance upon this as I waft through facebook, see the birthday alerts, it’s his on June 1st. Happy Bored Day Madan uncle, I’m glad we talked all that cricket.
It’s fashionable to follow DKNY
Who would’ve thought from one blog that had something to say about DK, he'll have a whole damn group on Facebook. It doesn’t take much really. Bored Cricket is on facebook. With the IPL coming, Yusuf Pathan and the cheerleaders’ clothes will have fans too.
Should you join – Yes. It’s very easy. Just like the 2 am callups that DK’s accustomed to; better still, you can leave when DK’s dropped, and join again, and leave and drop…naturally, MSD @fb will be far more compelling, but that will be overcrowded.
Here with DK@FB you’ll be part of something that nobody rates. The IPL’s coming, DK’s stock rises, he will play the odd winning knock, score his Manhattans, and speak like Scorsese. Watch New York New York while you’re at it.
Zamana badalgaya hai!
People are either for technology or against it. I’m for it, it creates more cricket fans. Among girls, especially.
This (in my imagination) is a typical conversation during a cricket game circa 1800’s:
“The match seems to be going marvellously, doesn’t it, dearie?” Belinda peers through her monocle to eye her friend Henrietta. Both are bedecked in straw hats and long print dresses.
“Oh, agreed. Lovely pitch, too, Gerard said.”
“Ah, is it?” Belinda feigns interest.
“I suppose so. It must be a special type of…dirt.” With a vague wave of her hand. Suddenly gasps. “Oh my—but that’s a run, isn’t it?”
Belinda glances at the field. “They do seem to be moving at any rate. ”
“Goodness! I would say that’s THREE solid runs, wouldn’t you?”
“Perhaps. Three, four—it’s all the same, isn’t it?”
“Oh rather. But my Gerard does so yearn for a glorious victory, being captain, after all. I suppose it’s like the Roman conquest. Men live for these things, you know.”
“Mmm bless them. Do pass me a crumpet.”
A good half hour spent munching in silence.
Suddenly Belinda snaps to attention. “Good heavens! It’s that delightful princely fellow.” –Fans herself “He’s come up to bat!”
“Oh, has he? He makes lovely scores, I’ve heard.”
“I’m ever so pleased! Now there’s something to watch! Do pass me a sandwich, darling.”
Fast forward to now..Facebook is what opens up cricket to most girls, I think. They can become "fans" of cricketers, get updates from Chris Gayle, & feel closer to a game that their brothers live for.
During a big match, you’ll typically get 50 or so updates from the 79 desi girls on your list.
Drama. Exclamation marks. Death threats. It’s all there.
Just as an example, real FB statuses from a recent match.

Join the group...But pl Thank Sachin
Indian cricket's oldest group, now on facebook.
If not for Sachin, we'd all be thankless.
Thankfully, there was, is and always will be Sachin.
Did you hear Yuvi at the post match talk? Viru in the early morning post? The selectors post MSD's appointment as captain?
What did they have in common?
They all said, "Thank you Sachin".
And that's what you said before the game, after the series, during the drink's break, when he got out, remained not out, raised his bat, raised your hopes, turned stones into milestones.
Thank you Sachin.
Please join the Thank You Sachin Facebook Group.
If nothing else, be yet another chance to Thank you Sachin.
Dravid plays shot, gets out.
Sources close to Dravid's edge claim he was in a hurry to load some Diwali pictures on to Facebook. Appears he will be tagged soon.
