Hit me, I’m Ishant!

by Gaurav Sethi

Hit me, hit me, till I lose control….no, hit me while I lose control. It baffles me why Ishant played for KKR today, wasn’t he just dropped for the last game? But that’s how it is for Ishant with the nationals, he’s dropped one game, then we’re reminded of his promise, and he’s back. Then he breaks the promise, and he’s off. Then he’s back.

The promise never goes away, the form is almost within grasp. Stuff like this makes you think horrible bad things about cricket, like some sponsors sponsor Ishant into every second game – he even looks like one of those 300 ml bottles. Now I would’ve drawn that out but I’m on to one of those 330 ml bottles.

Haha! But wasn’t it cute how he was all padded up and walking out with bat and good intentions on the fall of the 9th wicket today. Too bad that was the last ball of the 20th over.

Then again, this was the Kotla. He must’ve wanted to join the huddle in middle. But yaar, Dilli door thi, Ishant ke liye.

B the moment of the match

Semifinal 2, Bangalore playing Chennai

I was watching the match at a pub owned by a Kannadiga, surrounded by redshirts who invariably see you as a Chennai supporter because you picked your phone and said "Seri naa appuram pesaren" (OK, I'll call you later, in Tamil).

If sitting at a venue where you were outnumbered 1 to 8 was worse, the abyss of the day came during over number 20 of Chennai.

Robin Uthappa finally catches one and overacts as usual, and you have a whole bunch of redshirts around you shouting "Go Robin Go".

Do they want him to go back to Coorg, leaving cricket alone ??, I wonder.

Save all these, B the moment of the match was reserved for the end of the match banter between the fans of both teams.

"What poetic justice !! Both the last placed teams of 2008 are in the finals of IPL 2, brilliant right ??"

It is not dude, please...

Don't even mention this statistics again.

I don't want a John Buchanan and Sharukh Khan to hear this and continue with their disastrous experiments.

Let Kolkata Knight Riders have a life at least the next year.

KKR playing DC

Just as when Sharukh Khan was thinking of calling his travel agent to book his ticket to South Africa, Mashrafe Mortaza decided to save some cost for the team.

A day when the adage "Every dog has its day" was coming close to reality for the KKR pack, when one saw Ajit Agarkar defy his usual self and bowl a brilliant 19th, McCullum smile on field, Kartik bowling a good spell of 4 tight overs. When one started feeling that KKR are ducking the trend to win one, Mashrafe thought otherwise.

I would ask the KKR team to may be try their luck with book cricket first. And when they do that, I would recommend that they borrow a book from Scorpicity. That seems to be the only way KKR can win one.

Look who is talking...

Pink Floyd are entertaining me in the background as I write this post.

While doing my customary rounds of http://www.cricinfo.com/ I found something interesting.

"I'm 43 but wouldn't mind having a crack at it. I think I'll go okay but I am not sure if any side is desperate to take me"

Appropriately Floyd were playing the famous "Money" song as I was reading this.

But yes there is a side that is desperate, desperate that it wouldn't even mind taking or rather waking up a WG Grace or Sir Donald Bradman off their grave to manage a win, one WIN. I hear grapevine telling me that this guy might be the replacement for the "Fountain of ideas".

Now that I have given enough away, the man who said those famous words is Stephen Rodger Waugh. And yes, you got it right...

The team we are talking about are the Kolkata Knight Riders.

So would Stephen Play or Make Play ??

Whatever it is, he would make pots of money.

Some more music please...

And, Mark Knopfler now, Money for nothing

B the moment of the match

by RajaB

Moment of the match??

Nope... This shall be the moment for some time to come

Here's what the great Mr John Buchanan has to say about the dismal performance of his team...

who has gone from most successful coach to master of obfuscation during the course of his KKR tenure, spoke of his disappointment at the IPL rules that restrict teams to four foreign players a game. Excuse us? Obviously, this doesn't affect other teams. After all, Bangalore always intended to keep Dale Steyn on the bench, as did Delhi with Glenn McGrath.
Thanks www.cricinfo.com
The moment I saw this, I remembered my grandfather, a retired headmaster of some repute who also used to be my teacher (at home) till my high school days. Tamil, my mother tongue used be a KKR for me. It never took me anywhere. So famously after a Tamil exam, I remarked to my grandfather, "I couldn't write properly because the new pen you bought me hurt my hand".

Pat came his reply with a loaded Tamil proverb which needs to be told to Buchanan...

"Aada theriyadha thevidiyalukku theru konnallam"

I translate, for Mr Buchanan of course...

For a prostitute who can't dance, every street is obtuse (This is about performance, so I hope Mr Buchanan gets the meaning right... Did you Mr Boredmember??)

Let this B the moment of all those famed foreign coaches in action. Amen.

B the moment of the day

by RajaB

It was the first match of the day, but as usual I decided to cud-chew the few fun moments of the match before I decided on this one.

Did we realise that Buchanan outfoxed all of us?

Let me tell you how and why...

While we were wasting time talking about his multi-captain theory, he has quietly discovered & implemented yet another gem.

Did you notice that he played 3 wicket keepers in the 11 today?

Yes, there was McCullum, van Wyk & Saha.

I am told Buchanan is exploring the possibility of having 11 wicketkeepers (who will also be captains) in the team. He would soon implement this idea and revolutionise the brand of cricket KKR play.

He thinks once this brilliant idea is implemented nobody can beat them. You know how?

As a batsman you need a bowler to score your runs, what would you do if you had 11 wicketkeepers and no bowlers?

It would be a walkover!!

What a smart idea coachie...

Of Gavaskar, Buchanan and buy-one-get-five schemes

by Bored Member

Sunil Gavaskar has just stepped on another Australian toe and the hornets of the stirred nest are about to swarm him.

Apparently, he has a problem with Kolkata Knight Riders’ jumbo support staff, which threatens to outnumber the players. He said Shah Rukh Khan was being milked but the actor subsequently clarified he was no milch cow.

Gavaskar probably had an issue with the swarm of foreigners infesting the support staff bench across the IPL spectrum. The simple question is do the franchisees realize that they are actually being swindled by glib-talking foreigners?

Why is it so that when you rope in a foreigner as a coach, you need to find engagement for his pals as well? For a five-week romp, do you really need that many people around? And that too when you are dealing mostly with international stars and young aspirants for whom gym is the temple and fitness a way of living?

Buchanan had already added one of his five sons in the KKR camp and the remaining four need not lose hopes.

Make no mistake, coach's is the most exaggerated role in world cricket. In a lowly side, he probably does have a role to play. But as Shane Warne would tell you, the only coach a quality team needs is the one that takes the players from hotel to the ground and back.
