Indians demand match-fixing allegations

by Golandaaz

"What's really upsetting is that no one's implying match fixing here", said one prominent Indian cricketer on the condition of strict anonymity. Fiddling with his heavily bandaged fingers and a voice like the mighty Mike Tyson, he spoke about how Pakistani players are privileged to have fans that never believe Pakistan can lose in a game fair and square. "After a career spanning 2 decades it really hurts when no one accuses you of match fixing when you lose so badly. What it means is that the fans truly believe we were actually mediocre. Its the truth, but I tell you it hurts"

At this time the entire Indian team is hurting. No one can understand why there are no match fixing allegations. In fact some are secretly hoping that their colleagues did accept bribes to play poorly. Many of them are in denial that they were actually as bad as the scorecards suggest.

"Well of course one can say that we lost on merit but it would be nice to know that there was some adulteration of merit with black money" said another prominent cricketer from his hotel room.

On the request of an unnamed BCCI cheerleader, the BCCI has pleaded with the ICC's Anti corruption Unit to start an inquiry as to whether any foul play was involved. The belief is that any talk of an official match fixing investigation will fuel talk of match fixing and that would do; according to the cheerleader "...a world of good" to the Indian team's morale. "Whenever the inquiry starts, the first hour will be crucial" he added once again on the condition of absolute anonymity.

On economy rates and net run rates

by Golandaaz

I don't like statistics like "Economy Rate" and the obsession with "Net Run Rates".

I don't get it; especially in T20 cricket. I mean, I do get it; in the sense of what they mean; but I don't understand why they are so central in assessing a bowlers or a team's standing in relation to their peers, respectively.

6 runs per over or thereabouts is considered a decent "economy rate" for bowlers these days in T20 cricket and ODI cricket if you are Ashish Nehra,

But how does it reflect "economy"? When I think economical bowling I think of Even Chatfield from New Zealand. His figures, I agree deserve to be highlighted with a calculation of his economy.

To say that a spell of 4-3-49-0; where the 3 is the number of dot balls, has an economy rate of 12.25, is to suggest that a prostitute has something called a virginity factor. And the 3 days of abstinence of sex in a month is supposed to tell us something more about her.

The other statistic that bothers me is the Net Run Rate. Why so much focus on run scoring or preventing ability? Why, if all other things being equal, should 2 sides be separated based on the difference between run scoring and run preventing ability?

Why not a "Net Strike Rate"? Where we separate sides based on their frequency of taking and holding on to their wickets.

Why have we reduced bowlers to the level of prostitutes whose sole function is to pleasure their clients (also known as batsmen) and anything the bowlers themselves score; does not count at all.

The truth behind Osama's death

by Golandaaz

So Osama Bin Laden is dead.

We can all rejoice, once President Obama produces a long form of the death certificate, said Donald Trump.

Ever since the first edition, Osama Bin Laden had been hooked on to the IPL. Although he could not stand Danny Morrison and had on more than one occasion communicated his desire to "take out" Laxman Sivaramakrishna to his nearest Al Qaeda cell, he was eventually convinced by some wise men around him to not pick up a fight with Sharad Pawar.

Instead he watched the matches with the sound on mute.

Being a fan of Shahrukh Khan, investing his loyalties with Kolkata seemed very logical and that's what he did. Osama Bin Laden is reported to have danced through the night, when Brendon McCullum blew away a not so royal challenge from Bangalore in the very first IPL game.

But since, Kolkata's floundering campaigns, have been unbearable to watch, he had jotted down in his dairy. His doctors believe that seeing his favorite team lose so often was the main reason for Osama Bin Laden's increasing stress and worsening heart and kidney functions.

After last year's pathetic show by the Knight Riders, his counsel of wise advisers, finally convinced him to stop being loyal to Shah Rukh Khan. While the wise men rejoiced at their influence on the man, what we know from his diary is that it was Shahrukh Khan's "My Name is Khan" that was responsible. "What a dim witted movie...and to think I actually loved Shahrukh Khan" is what he wrote.

Then came the World Cup and the void left behind by Shahrukh Khan was quickly filled by Yuvraj Singh. "They wrote him off, called him names, mocked his injuries but like a true man when his country called on him, he gave them all he had and more", he wrote in his diary.

Choosing to root for Pune was thus only natural. Yesterday evening as he was browsing the Internet, he peeked at the 2011 IPL points table with roughly half the tournament through. He saw Pune was at the bottom. He glanced at the top and found KKR.

"Life is no longer worth living" - As far as we know those were his last words and yes, it was a suicide

Out of South Africa

by KhufiaBaaz

Graeme Smith, the South African captain, created a social networking furor by declaring SA’s innings at 584/9 during the 2nd test versus Pakistan at Abu Dhabi. Many passionate cricket fans, as well as South African fans, bombarded Smith on his twitter page. Apparently, the fans were angered by the fact that Morne Morkel was prevented by Smith from reaching his personal best of 40, and was stranded on 35 N.O. in the company of some ABCD Ve guy on 278.

When the media pounded Smith about this decision, Smith with his usual pugnacious attitude, responded, “Listen. I didn’t want Morne to better his personal record of 40. We would lose a genuine number 11 batsman and our selectors – you know how they are – they might get Gibbs back in to play at #11.” When pushed further, Smith revealed, “I didn’t want to upset the delicate clique balance we have in our team. And also, Morne might want a move up the order. As valid as that request may be, considering the kind of form Alviro and Ashwell have been in recently, I was keeping an eye on the upcoming series against India. You know Dhoni is going to spread the field as soon as Morne steps in to bat. This will give us an opportunity to score all the runs we want.”

Kaif back in the reckoning

by KhufiaBaaz

After a string of low scores, the latest being a no-score, the selectors are on the verge of picking Mohammad Kaif. One selector offered in way of explanation, “I believe the worst is over for Kaif…he has had a string of low scores no doubt…but after rain there must be sunshine…we expect Kaifu to come good very soon…you cannot hide class”. I however believe Kaif's selection is the perfect ploy to justify picking Yuvraj Singh. And just as I was coming to terms with this belief, the selector’s guilty conscience added, “Look at Yuvi, you cannot hide class…he will be back to his best…also we believe Kaifu to be the perfect partner for Yuvi while chasing 300+ targets in the sub-continent…”. Yeah sure, like 325 at Lord's.

Thank You Sachin!

by Gaurav Sethi

Sachin, oh Sachin,

You always think of us, whether we’re having a good time watching the cricket, or an even better time, not watching the cricket. Today, you did something very special – you made sure we don’t watch the cricket.

This would not have been possible if you were playing for that 50th test hundred. Instead, you played for a forty. What does this say about you – You let us get back to our Diwali lives. How could I have hugged my folks if I was still watching you play? How could I have replied to Happy Diwali SMSes if I was hanging on to your every run? How could I have eaten that barfi? How could I have? How could I have answered that phone call, call of nature doorbell? How? How could I have taken my eyes of you, your fiftieth, no, not even a 39th Diwali could come in my way.

I speak for all Bored Cricket Crazy Indians. Thank You Sachin! Thanks for putting Diwali before your fiftieth test hundred. Tussi great ho!

In the scorecard it should read Sachin caught Happy bowled Diwali. Sounds crazy, hey, it’s Diwali, yaar! Happy to you, you Bored Cricket Crazy Indians, Happy to you Sachin. Happy!

Rain Might Play Spoilsport For Phone Tappers

by KhufiaBaaz

After Hanse Cronje's conversations were tapped when he stayed at the Taj Gateway (then Taj Residency) in Kochi, cricketers have been keen to be moved to the city's other Taj, Malabar where the service is better and they don't play Boney M and Michael Jackson all day long at their restaurants, preferring instead Kenny G classics from the 1700s. This has upset phone tappers in the national peeping association who had no idea where the cricketers had been shifted to until Michael Clarke and Suresh Raina gave away their locations by posting pictures on twitter of the rainy scenery from their hotel windows. Eager phone tappers however have been hit by another force of nature as the city has been hit by stormy weather creating a natural disturbance in the background. Although unlikely it is possible a few Australian cricketers might officially announce within the hour that the rain is a conspiracy to defraud Pakistan.

"Shahid Bhai! Shahid Bhai! - I just called to say, I did it!"

by Gaurav Sethi

Early morning, Aamer is gently knocking at a door. Inside Shahid Bhai has just woken up, he yawns, then realizes he should go the whole hog – so his yawn becomes one of his big celebratory stretches. Knocking continues, much harder now.

Shahid Bhai (mock sings a song): Who’s that girl?

Aamer (feigning a smile): It’s a boy…Shahid Bhai…I’ve been knock..(stammers) knock…knocking

Shahid Bhai (mock sings a song): Knock Knock Knocking on Heaven’s DOOR! Haha! Why here, you should Knock Knock Knocking on heaven’s door

Aamer (breaks down): Shahid Bhai…that’s why I come to your door…

Shahid Bhai: Areh, I’ve just checked in, who showed you the door?

Aamer: Yousuf Bhai, he walked with me here, and showed me the door

Shahid Bhai: OK, sit down, I need to do my stretches…

Shahid Bhai prances around the room, and stretches arms heavenwards in front of every available mirror.

Shahid Bhai (applying toothpaste): What good is the stretch without the smile…now my 4 minute teeth yoga

He starts to brush his teeth furiously, Aamer looks down at his fingers.

Aamer (whispers): It was..Butt...

Shahid Bhai (through the paste foam): But?

Aamer: Butt told me…to do…what I did…

Shahid Bhai (spurts out his rinse): What? Does anybody know?

Aamer: Everybody.

Shahid Bhai (mock sings again): I’ll always be the last to know

Aamer: Why are you singing so much Shahid Bhai?

Shahid Bhai: O’ nuthin yaar…yesterday I met Scott from Scotland Yard, and he said, be prepared the police is gonna make you sing like a canary….when that happens, I wanna be the best singer (prances around singing with an imaginary mic) like a bird on a wire....

New IPL model for the national squad

by KhufiaBaaz

The Champions League finals were supposed to be the last match played by the current CSK squad as a team. Come fresh auctions and most players cannot be retained. Clearly this is not pleasing some influential people who are demanding a longer run for the reigning IPL and ACLT champions. There’s been talk of fielding a CSK XI as the India XI against Australia.

Instead of four foreigners, it’s been proposed that four players of Indian origin from other IPL teams will be accommodated. Not hard to tell who these four will be – Sachin, Bhajji, Sehwag, Dravid. The final XI could be: Sehwag, Vijay, Dravid, Sachin, Raina, Srikkanth, Dhoni, Ashwin, Bhajji, Balaji, Jakati. As usual, there’s been a strong push for more than four foreigners (read as non CSK players) – seeing as CSK’s bowling’s a little thin, Zaks could add much needed flab to the attack.

Pollard to donate sperm to Mumbai Indians

by KhufiaBaaz

After a barbaric 72 of 30 balls, the Mumbai Indians biggies moved in quickly to sign up future generations of Kieron Pollard. It is learn that Pollard will donate his sperm to spawn future generations of mad hatter hitters. But what if it’s a girl? Mumbai Indians will tackle that by starting a women’s franchise called the Mumbai Pollards. Which is when someone joked, what if it’s a chhakka? The Indians didn't laugh.

Dharmasena apologises to Sehwag.

by KhufiaBaaz

Sehwag was left stranded by umpire Dharmasena on 12, 88 short of what would have been a richly deserved 13th hundred. Sehwag has confirmed, Dharmasena came to his room to apologize. Sri Lanka Cricket has moved swiftly, Dharmasena will miss the next match. Dilshan who prompted Dharmasena to raise the finger will lose 50% of his match fees. Although the tracker service showed the ball would have kissed the outside of the leg stump, it was an untimely decision as Sehwag had still not faced Randiv. Very much against the spirit of the game.
