The Difference.

by Bored Guest

Sri Lanka are chasing Bangladesh's puny sub 250 score with ease. Jayawardene is playing as if the last month never happened. Tharanga likes to score on pitches in places where Bengali is spoken.

Bangladesh struggled and stuttered and sputtered to reach 249 on this pitch. A day ago, Mighty Mahmudullah swung his bat and spanked the highly ranked Indian consortium of bowlers and dart throwers and pie chuckers.

With India's bowling being the way it is and Shakib having learnt the lesson that he must not bat first here, our hopes lie perhaps too much on the toss.

Here is what I hope turns out to be the sequence of events:

We lose the toss and are made to bowl second in both our remaining matches. Dilshan will bat like an Anti Buddhist and earn his desired locker in the DD dressing room ahead of Ashish Nehra, Thushara will make Dhoni blush. Maybe we manage to win the next one, it would be a close match then because remember, we've lost the toss and are bowling second. Or we could lose both but go through to the finals, eliminating Bangladesh on the basis of NRR. The heroics of Mushfiqur will not be in vain though, Dileep Premachandran will write a glowing feel good article about Bangladesh's performance which will leave people questioning their understanding of cricket and its intricacies, their knowledge of its history, the socio-politico-cultural-psychological factors and their vocabulary.

But on the day of the final, the unplanned for happens and India win the toss. Sri Lanka will politely be asked to bat first. But as a proud and young unit building a core team for the 2011 in this very sub continent, Sri Lanka will refuse to lose the toss and lose to the toss.

Dilshan will shine and the Tharanga will fly high as Sri Lanka will post a mammoth freaking target of 415. That's nearly 10 times the average Raina score!

But we are not the third best team in ODIs for nothing. Each batsman will make a fist of it and proceed to show Sri Lanka exactly how to chase a score of say..415.

Sangakkara will issue a heartfelt apology in Sinhalese, even the confused Dhaka crowd will clap for a speech well made, Dhoni will let out a solitary, secret, internal sigh of relief and the bowlers will let out a collective sigh of relief.

In the end, the difference between the two teams will be Sri Lanka's lucky streak with the toss. The difference will be their inexperience bowling second on this goddamn pitch.

A day of daredevilry.

by bored cricket crazy indians

First the Jatman – 146 runs on the rocks. Then Dilshan, “hit me with a 160”. After that Nehra, shaken not stirred. If Rajkot was a bartender, these Dardevils were alcoholics.

Elsewhere Vettori started by snacking on two wickets, setting the Kiwis for a series win. Not to be, but then Vettori doesn’t play all Daredevil games. If he was a regular, who knows, a five for, followed by fireworks with the bat.

Even Asif, an erstwhile Daredevil lasted ten deliveries for his zero. His innings was such a dampener, it roped in the rains that robbed the Kiwis of a win.

And what about the other ex-Daredevil, Shoiab Malik; though not playing, and largely useless, he still booked his spot for the series down under.

Meanwhile Amit Mishra was letting it rip in the nets. If that wasn’t enough, David Warner ran two apartment blocks to catch a ball from another game. “Not out!” said the umpire, but David continued to smile impishly. And the whole world smiled; with the Daredevils.

Making a song and dance out of Bhajji and Dilshan.

by Gaurav Sethi

(A tribute in broken Punjabi-Hinglish to the unbreakable Bhajji and his compelling appeals that have devoured Dilshan twice.)

Kar de ungal upar shupar!

Upar Shupar! Upar Shupar!

Sun le meri baat puttar!

Kar de ungal upar shupar!

Upar shupar! Upar shupar!

Dilshan ka kya, pad lagi ki paad maari

Awaaz ayee, awaaz ayee!

Gandi se joh bu ayee!

Kar de ungal upar shupar!

Upar Shupar! Upar Shupar!

Dey de, dey de, dey de yaar

Upar Shupar!

Abey! Don’t care what he says!

Dilli daredevils da munda haiga!

He should know kaise haiga!

Upar Shupar! Upar Shupar!

Kar di appeal, ho gaya mamla fit

Kar di appeal, ho gaya mamla hit!

Umpire ne kar di Dilshan ki!

Upar Shupar!

Bhajji ne kar di Dilshan ki

Upar Shupar!

Upar Shupar! Upar Shupar!

(This song is best danced in two steps, first raise your dreaded finger like an idiot umpire would with a glazed look into the mid distance (enamoured by Bhajji’s appeal) then raise the other hand’s finger up, break into the Bhangra with both fingers raised – sing it yaar, Upar Shupar! Kar de ungal Upar Shupar!

Part time lover

by bored cricket crazy indians

Once all the bowlers were offered as sacrifice to Jatman, it was time for Plan B: Bowl Dilshan.

A tweet by BoredCricket @15.38

Dilshan has still not bowled. Then again, to get Jatman outta here they'll need a part time lover. Not a part time bowler #cricket

Finally, Dilshan bowled in the 72nd over, and Jatman was dropped at slip. Of course, Dilshan could have bowled earlier, say the first over, and Jatman could have still been dropped at slip. At least then the captain could have blamed the slipper and not himself.

In hindsight, Dilshan should have bowled in the 78th over, for that's when Katich had him @195, some 6 years back.

And now Dilshan says Thank You Sachin!

by bored cricket crazy indians

Statutory Warning: Reading this could make you feel sick

From TOI: Tillekratne Dilshan, who had a memorable opening game greeted Tendulkar enthusiastically, but as expected the exchange was more like one between master and pupil. "So you are playing today," said Sachin, more a statement than a question. Dilshan nodded, again enthusiastically.

"Where do you play?"
"Centurion"
"Best of Luck"

Dilshan won't be complaining: After scoring a century, he will now wish he could meet Tendulkar before every game!

The Daniel Vettori Conundrum

by Gaurav Sethi

Dilshan swat sweeps Vettori for four; that pleased me immensely. At that precise moment I was able to address my warped relationship with Vettori.

Now Dan plays for the Delhi Daredevils, at least he thinks he does – turns up year after year at the IPL. Throws up in IPL1, plays a game or two, barely, keeps Amit Mishra out.

Then IPL2, where he plays again, keeps Mishra out, again, and gets smashed around in spite of that studious look. Then Mishra keeps him out. Or more like Yusuf Pathan keeps him out, isn’t that how all Indians should play him?

Turns out Indians don’t play him that well, seems more out of respect for his beard and glasses than his bowling. Dan looks so knowledgeable, you have to respect him.

But it’s a strange one with Dan, plays for Delhi, and I’d like him to do well, but more than that, I don’t want him to play. Maybe as a later order batsman, that really is his forte, or to stall a collapse.

Then when it’s an Ind-Kiwi game, let’s not even get into that. Had more than enough of him for one day.

Luckily it's not Dilshan, it's only Sangakarra who got out

by Gaurav Sethi

This is how I saw it: Vettori high fiving, so someone was out – hope it’s not Dilshan. Replay. Dilshan facing, so it is Dilshan. No wait, that’s not a catch, the ball ricochets off Vettori’s hand, hits the stumps, and knocks the bails off. Third umpire referral: Cool, it’s only Sanga, Dilshan is still there.

This gets me thinking deep thoughts: cricket, it's not about the better batsman anymore, it's about the more entertaining one. Who would you rather see not dismissed, Sachin or Sehwag? Haddin or Hussey? Afridi or MoYo? Flintoff or Collingwood? AB de Villiers or Kallis? Dilshan or Sanga?

And to hell with the match situation, format, or if they're playing against us. I'd go with the entertainer.

PS: Do they need Dilshan in the com box, have you heard those drones

Dilshan doesn't rate the Kiwis

by pRAFs

Either that, or he thinks he's playing another t20 tournament. 92 off 72 balls on the first morning of a test match. That takes some doing.

Kiwis might have been all chuffed after SL did the usual sacrifice-the-opener-to-the-gods ritual. King Kumar didn't last too long either.

But Dilshan wondered what the fuss was all about, and cut and drove merrily on the way to 92. Didn't play the dilscoop though.

Too bad, he didn't get the hundred.

But going by the treatment dished out to the bowlers, the Kiwis will have some long field sessions on this tour.

And yes, Jayawardena got a hundred, but he doesn't get a post, because he isn't half as much fun.

Where are you Damith?

by Q

Have you gone into hiding?

Its alright buddy, its all fun and games, just entertainment, much like WWF!

Sure we spanked your behinds, but don't take it too seriously mate.

I told you that "one who laughs last, laughs best", but I guess you were too busy engrossing yourself with King Kumar's reaction to Younis Khan's suggestion that you totally missed that, didn't you?

That's alright, you can always go back, take a look at it, and enjoy a good laugh.

The last time around, I remember you asked what we would do when Dilshan plays one of his scoops.

Even then I said that it would not bother us. But this time, I actually wrote him a letter, requesting him not to play the shot in the final.

But he didn't listen to me. I'm sure you missed that too because you were too busy enjoying King Kumar's laugh, weren't you?

Who else did you mention last time? Ahh the one and only "Splendid" Mendis.

You do know that you're the only one who calls him "Splendid", don't you? I think you even coined that name; I believe its time you reconsider.

Against Pakistan he has been anything but that. I told you that last time too.

The 4-0-34-0 just proved that again; I bet you missed those figures since you were too busy smirking at King Kumar's laugh, weren't you Damith?

I remember the cat and the tissues you sent me last time; in response I mentioned that I live to fight another day.

Fortunately for me, that another day was a day that mattered more than last time.

So what do I send your way now?

At first, I thought I would return the favor.

But then I realized that tissues is not what you need my friend.

What you need is something that will save you from the haunting memories of this World T20 final.

What you need is something that will stop you from questioning yourself everytime you think, "Why did King Kumar laugh?" or "Why did I post that picture?" or "Why did I caption that picture that way?"

Hence, I picked this.

It will help deafen all that laughter from King Kumar that will haunt you forever. and ever. and ever.

Oh and it comes with a Lifetime Garantee!

Answers for Damith & Some Questions too

by Q

You call Afridi's leg spinners to minnows illegal.

So what will you call it when he runs through the Lanka batting line up?

Will it be illegal because he ran through the minnows? Or will it be destructive bowling that was too good for the Sri Lankans?

Speaking of your batting line up, there isn't much after the top 4.

By the time Gul and Tanvir are done with them, Afridi will run through the minnow-esque middle order and tail.

You call Mendis Splendid, but we both know that he's far from that.

He caught the Aussies sleeping because they had never played him before.

Pakistan, on the other hand, have had the better of him in Tests, ODIs, and T20s.

Mendis doesn't stand a chance against Akmal, Younis, Misbah, Malik, and the rest.

Moreover, if our spinach-eating-popeye-impersonator Abdul Razzaq lands in London on time, any hope that you had will be lost!

You know as well as I do that Dilshan fails every 3rd innings - come tomorrow, come Pakistan, and it will be his 3rd innings of the World T20.

Sadly we won't see a single sitting-down-in-weird-frog-type-stance-and-scooping-over-the-keeper-shot!

So Damith boy, your team doesn't stand a chance.

Questions for Q

by Damith S.

You lost to The Engerrrland. The same England that lost to the Nederlands. Then wickedly unleashed Afridis weirdo top spinning leggies on them.

Which we all can agree should be illegal. Everyone knows its unfair to disjoint Minnows with leg spin.

How do you expect to beat SL on friday night?

A team that knocked out Australia, in their sleep.

A team with Splendid Mendis in full romping mood.

Some would say it is impossible. But Pakitan once won a world cup. Which is also illegal cuz they used Leg spin on another minnow- lo and behold the Englerrrland.

Also, now they have to contend with Dilshans Keeper- Embarrasser/Killer shot.

AND, Angellow Matthews volleyball fielding acrobatics.

I put it to you sir, that there is no hope.

who will captain daredevils...

by straight point

with jatman out due to injury...the question is who will captain delhi daredevils...

vettori...?
though he started well...but that onslaught from yusuf seems to have scarred him...seems to have lost his touch since...and now struggling to complete his quota of overs...

de villiers...?
i have not seen him captain so can't comment on that but what i know is that he is going great guns and i don't wanna put an extra burden on him...which might hamper his fluency with the bat...delhi needs him more as a bat than a captain...

dilshan...?
after what he did with his sole captaincy stint in a T20 match in srilanka...no way...?

dinesh karthick...?
i think he is best suited for this temporary stint...seems to have found some form with bat...and extra responsibility and lure of competing against dhoni might make him more alert and focused on the job at hand...which delhi needs badly in the middle...as also in the middle overs...the way delhi opening has been so far...

besides...it will be a sight to see dhoni coming to toss with his counterpart...i really don't wanna miss this chance to see them compete against each other...

do you...?

i fear for srilanka...

by Bored Member

not coz mahela jayawardene has resigned from captaincy...

but for the reason what i saw in yesterday's match that india won...

...and the name of my fear is tillakaratne mudiyanselage dilshan...

he was all over the place yesterday...

yelling at bowlers...shouting at fielders...

one moment he looked to be in heaven...

and another looked as if he will have a heart attack...

one shot from batsman and you could see how his shoulders dropped...

all in all a nervous wreck...

he was a text book example of how a captain should not behave on field...

so please srilanka, if you want to appoint any captain...

arrange another T20 match with us...to see how he fares...

we are anyway free still...before we play next T20 match with nz...

and we can do atleast this much for you...for being such a good neighbors...

yes dhoni?

ps: even bcci seems to like this idea...

Dilshan’s triple

by Gaurav Sethi

Sure Dilshan’s been scoring runs, tons, but a triple? Sure the top order was in exile, but a triple?

Turns out it was Dilshan’s three wickets cricinfo reported. You will never see that ‘triple’ headline on cricinfo. At best it would’ve lasted a few minutes. By the time you was refreshed it was four wickets.

Dilshan scalped four, and Bangladesh looked like skinheads.

Earlier in the piece, the Delhi Daredevils good fortune shone on Dilshan – he scored more runs in this test (162 & 143*) than he has in many lifetimes.

Btw Dilshan scores plenty vs. Zim and Bangladesh. You’d think he was the land of milk and honey.

There was a time I would confuse Dilshan for Arnold. That problem was solved. Arnold ran away to the ICL.

Earlier for the Daredevils, Dilshan threatened to get away too. Didn’t score many, but he’s a good fielder. Is that why the Devils bought him – or is there a clandestine game with the Dacca Warriors?

Dilshan was named after one of his longer innings, possibly vs. Bangla - Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan.

What’s your take - Does Dilshan give it all he got?
